Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ubuntu doesn't like my USB Wifi adapter...

    Hi guys,

Does anyone know why Ubuntu would only half work with a USB wifi adapter? It recognises that it's connected and does show me available access points, but for some reason it just cannot connect. I have a brand-less Ralink RT2870 USB device which works perfectly with Windows Vista.

I thought the problem in Linux might have been the driver, but surely a driver would either work or not work at all. Ubuntu already has a driver, and calls the device ra0. Anyway, I tried installing the driver that came with it but I got all sorts of errors at the 'make' stage. I googled those errors but cannot find the answer.

Ok, maybe someone can shed some light on the errors I'm getting...

When I try to compile the driver with 'make', everything looks ok apart from a few errors which all say this sort of thing:

/home/wifi/driver3/os/linux/../../common/crypt_aes.c:2265: warning: the frame size of 1100 bytes is larger than 1024 bytes

What does that even mean? Ugh, it seems ever single thing I try in linux fails.

Maybe try and use ndiswrapper and install the window driver through it.
    I know it ain't a perfect solution.

I can't really do that - the windows drivers are all packaged inside an exe. Ndiswrapper asks for an .inf file.

Wow. Hold your horses. If you're seeing the device and networks are showing up you're most of the way there. Stop trying to build the drivers yourself now unless you particularly like that sort of thing :D .

How have you tried connecting? Are you using NetworkManager? What error are you getting?
