With the critically acclaimed Inception and his working on both the next Batman and Superman film, Nolan is entitled to take his time with the 3rd Batman film. I would gladly wait another 10 years for part 3 if it was guaranted to be even half as good as the Dark Knight, you can't rush quality.

Norton's agent responds to Kevin Feige's comments
"This offensive statement from Kevin Feige at Marvel is a purposefully misleading, inappropriate attempt to paint our client in a negative light. Here are the facts: two months ago, Kevin called me and said he wanted Edward to reprise the role of Bruce Banner in The Avengers. He told me it would be his fantasy to bring Edward on stage with the rest of the cast at ComiCon and make it the event of the convention. When I said that Edward was definitely open to this idea, Kevin was very excited and we agreed that Edward should meet with Joss Whedon to discuss the project. Edward and Joss had a very good meeting (confirmed by Feige to me) at which Edward said he was enthusiastic at the prospect of being a part of the ensemble cast. Marvel subsequently made him a financial offer to be in the film and both sides started negotiating in good faith. This past Wednesday, after several weeks of civil, uncontentious discussions, but before we had come to terms on a deal, a representative from Marvel called to say they had decided to go in another direction with the part. This seemed to us to be a financial decision but, whatever the case, it is completely their prerogative, and we accepted their decision with no hard feelings.

We know a lot of fans have voiced their public disappointment with this result, but this is no excuse for Feige's mean spirited, accusatory comments. Counter to what Kevin implies here, Edward was looking forward to the opportunity to work with Joss and the other actors in the Avengers cast, many of whom are personal friends of his. Feige's statement is unprofessional, disingenuous and clearly defamatory. Mr. Norton talent, tireless work ethic and professional integrity deserve more respect, and so do Marvel's fans.

Typical of Marvel I'm afraid. This does not bode well for the quality of The Avengers if this is their attitude. Norton was excellent as Banner in The Incredible Hulk and I can't see them getting an actor of his calibre to take on the role to be honest. It definitely seems like they're shooting themselves in the foot just to save a few pennies!

This sucks, they've gone to sp much trouble to establish continuity in the movies with all the references and cameos in both the iron man movies and the incredible hulk, seems like such a waste. Oh well,I still trust Joss Whedon to make a good film regardless, could be worse, he could be working for Fox.

Joaquin Phoenix has allegedly been offered the part of the Hulk in Marvel's forthcoming superhero ensemble project The Avengers.

According to CHUD, Marvel Studios has extended an offer to Phoenix, who walked away from acting in 2008 to concentrate on a rap career, to take over the role from Edward Norton.

Phoenix has not appeared in a movie since Two Lovers, however his post-acting exploits have been filmed by Casey Affleck for a documentary titled I'm Still Here.

Norton, who starred in 2008's Incredible Hulk, was axed from the comic book role over the weekend after Marvel Studios president Kevin Fiege claimed that the company wants an actor who "embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members".

Norton's agent Brian Swordstrom has since hit back at Feige, calling his comments "unprofessional, disingenuous and clearly defamatory".

Marvel reportedly hopes to have an actor confirmed for the Bruce Banner role before this month's Comic-Con.

The Joss Whedon-directed Avengers will open on May 4, 2012 and bring together Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth's Thor and Chris Evans's Captain America.

This is just getting bizarre. Phoenix is a favourite of mine but needless to say that the man isn't in the right frame of mind right now. Then there's the problem that Phoenix is a hulk of a guy (:pac:), he's not the right fit for the skinny/weedy Banner.

He would totally be wrong for the part, they should be looking at someone like Adrain Brody, before he beefed up for Predators anyway.

Phoenix... man he used to be so good. Now he's just a nutjob.
I'm very disappointed about Norton being screwed over. he did a fine job in the Incredible Hulk film.

Here's a new pic of Odin,Thor and Loki from the Thor film.

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/herocomplex/2010/07/thor-3d-captain-america-3d-comiccon-marvel-studios.html

Apparently both Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor will now be coming out in 3D. Lets hope they don't screw them up.

Also looks like Mark Ruffalo could be the next Banner. I think he's a great choice although I would still prefer Ed Norton.

Uggh Hopkins looks awful as Odin and Loki in the background looks pretty bad as well. I hope it is just a bad promo pic and not a shot from the film.

Would have much preferred Brian Blessed as Odin, as he was originally in talks for the role.

Wasn't Phoenix just playing a nutjob for a mockumentary him and Casey Affleck are making?

I think he'd be great! It doesn't look good for the Avengers movie though does it.. I wonder will anyone else drop out

Yup, I thought I was going mad because I thought I was the only one who thought it looked awful. I think it's just a bad promo pic though, it's like they just said "right guys, Anthony you stand in front and Tom and Chris, you stand either side of them." It looks like a pic that took zero effort, as if they just caught them coming off set and asked them to pose for a quick pic.

I mean compare the promo pics for TDK and even the Spider-Man franchise to this and you will see that this is a pretty pathetic effort by Marvel.

Hehe like a cross between that and Ming's throne room in Flash Gordon.:)

So going by that pic, we have Thor kneeling, two of the Warriors Three standing at the right hand side, looks to be Hogun and Fandral. On the left we have Loki complete with horned helmet and who is beside Loki? Could that be the Enchantress?

Well here's a shock, the rumours were actually true:
Bryan Singer has admitted that he wanted to cast Twilight star Taylor Lautner in X-Men: First Class.

Speaking to Blastr, the producer confirmed the rumours that Lautner was approached to star in 20th Century Fox's superhero prequel.

Singer said: "I wanted Taylor to do it, I really did. He's doing a movie in Pittsburgh called Abduction and then he's got the next Twilight movie. We talked about it a lot, he is a friend, and I really wanted to make it work. It just doesn't look like it's possible to do it."

The filmmaker also ruled out stepping behind the camera for Wolverine 2, saying: "It's not what I'm going to do right now, the next project for me next year, in London, is Jack The Giant Killer that is set in the 1300s and it's very fun. It will be a big movie."

James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence will star in X-Men: First Class, due in cinemas in June 2011.

    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/news/a246415/singer-i-wanted-lautner-for-x-men.html

I wonder who he wanted him for? Please don't say a young Wolverine. :(

Theres a remake of "Logans Run" coming out soon.

I'm looking forward to this because the original was WAY to ahead of its time and they just didn't have the cinematic qualities to make the film visually spectacular....although they did their best haha

    I think shooting begins September?:D

.... that movie looks completely ridiculous. Like, even in Superhero terms.

That's a poor image all right, I mean it's a really bad promo pic. But everything that was released before that pic only filled me with confidence.

I think the image Mickeroo posted is excellent, and it's amazing how one little thing can make the costume look a million times better. *cough*helmets*cough* :pac:

A few US sites are reporting that it is not a promo shot after all and is actually a screenshot of Odin giving a speech.

Some are picking up on the fact that it is the first pic released with a shot of Mjolnir in Thor's hand as well.

If your helmet comment means that you think that Loki's horned helmet improved his look between one pic and the other by about a billion times, then I would defo have to agree with ya. :)

TBF Taylor Lautner (wolf boy from Twighlight) might make a decent Colossus.

Bit short to be Colossus though, and a bit small in terms of build despite being toned.

Plus as LZ5by5 said, the time line would be wrong for Colossus to be in it, but then again they are chucking Storm into this version and it is starting to look like they will be having the Beast as being blue and hairy going by comments made by Vaughan.

Funnily enough though, the IMDb page has been update and Lautner is now listed as being the Beast (listed as rumoured to be fair) and Hoult is still listed as the Beast on the page too.

    yeah.

gotta admit im liking the helmets.

still too early to tell but theres nice little touches in it (the two crows on the hilt/throne being aspects of odin that do his bidding. if you dont have a clue about norse mythology you wouldnt have a monkies about what they mean but there they are.)

im also getting a weird kinda kryptonian feel off it like its more tech than god like fantasy.

love the design on the floor.

cant wait to see the first trailer to see how it all fits together and flows as thats whatll make or break this film.

Don't know if anyone is familiar with the Goon comics, I've never read them myself but I've heard good things. Some footage from the forthcoming film adaptation has popped up, it's an animation. Couldn't find it on youtube but heres a link to it.

EXCL: Studio Casting Grid Names Riddler as Batman 3 Villain

    July 20, 2010

    by Ethan Anderton

We're not officially kicking off Comic-Con until tomorrow, but today we have a huge bit of news regarding a comic book flick that likely doesn't even have a presence at this year's convention. We've gotten word from a reliable inside source with a studio casting grid that The Riddler is listed as a character for Chris Nolan's highly anticipated to the sequel to The, which is still called Batman 3 at Warner Bros. Even more interesting, the currently listed in the same grid to play the assumed villain is none other than Joseph Gordon-Levitt, whose status is just listed as "interested." Let's all say it together now: Hell. Yes!
We'd like to point out that this news should be considered confirmation that the Riddler is the villain in Batman 3 and less confirmation of the recent suggestions/rumors regarding Gordon-Levitt's casting as the enigmatic villain. A casting grid is used in the industry to keep companies, agencies, etc. in the loop on a project's progress and the roles available for actors to potentially take. These documents are used for business planning in the industry and by no means would use internet speculation to list a character that may not even appear in the film. But when it comes to listing actors, this is info that can change at anytime, and just because an actor or studio is interested in one or the other, does not mean it will actually happen.
We're also cautious because the age range listed for the character is 35 to 45, and with Gordon-Levitt being 29 years old falls a little short of the mark. Of course, this wouldn't really be a reason for him to be excluded as characters can be modified in the script to accommodate a favored actor. On the lighter side though, the actor is fresh off working with Nolan on the brilliant Inception, so they've surely developed quite a working relationship as Gordon-Levitt called him "the genuine article… a real artist" and "a unique voice." For now we'll consider Gordon-Levitt's involvement a rumor, but seeing The Riddler in a studio casting grid is solid confirmation of Nolan's villain for Batman 3. Hopefully we'll get an official confirmation sooner than later.

Most likely bull lads, I'm not sure how exactly one gets their hands on information like this. Also, would the grid not suggest who the secondary villains are?

Casey Affleck in one of his unhinged personas would make for a great Riddler imho. Not that gone on the idea of the Riddler being the main villan if true though.

Totally agreed, I'm not too enthusiastic about seeing The Riddler either but after seeing The Killer Inside Me, I think Casey Affleck would be fantastic in the role.

Forgot about his performance in The Killer Inside Me. He really would fit as the Riddler though, although many people would probably be expecting a Riddler like the Jim Carrey version.

Actually with a bit more muscle and a performance like TKIM crossed with his performance in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and you could get an excellent Hush or Victor Zsasz.

Yeah, that's why I laugh when I see reports linking Johnny Depp and David Tennant to the role, because it's obvious that the media think Nolan wants a zany portrayal. Whereas what I'm expecting is something along the lines of someone who has a mask of calm, but underneath that mask is an obsessive psychopath.

Hush would be an interesting one but I think if he was to be in it, the background would have had to been established already. Plus, Hush came at a time when Batman was well into career and had bested his foes repeatedly. What was great about Hush is that he taught these foes new tricks to fcuk with Bruce's mind. So I think it might be a bit too early in Bats' career for Hush!
