Apparently Kick Ass 2 has been greenlit due to the good dvd sales of the first.

Black Swan helmer Darren Aronofsky has joined the list of potential directors for Warner Bros.' new Superman movie, reports Heat Vision.

The list includes Duncan Jones, Jonathan Liebesman, Matt Reeves, Tony Scott and Zack Snyder. The trade adds that Ben Affleck was also briefly in the running but he is reportedly no longer pursuing the job.

Aronofsky is said to be in active talks, though it's early.

Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas will executive produce the film, targeted for a 2012 release.

I came across an interesting counter point to the claims that Aronosky's work is too dark for Superman: what did Donner do before Superman? The Omen. ;)

    And inevitably:
Natalie Portman may be Warner Brothers' number one choice for the part of Lois Lane in the upcoming Superman reboot, reports Moviehole.

The site reports that Portman was in the running for the part as far back as Superman Returns and that the recently rumored addition of Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky to the alleged studio short list may be a sign that negotiations for the part are back on the table.

Now I could dig that. It's about time Lois was actually.........likeable. :pac:

Seems a little bit obvious to cast Portman in the Superman reboot, because of the Aronofsky/Black Swan connection, kind of like casting DiCaprio/Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Batman 3 just because of of their connections with Nolan and Inception.. But i wonder, will she want to do another superhero franchise after Thor and possibly The Avengers.. And would Marvel be happy with her being cast in such a huge DC franchise..

Not sure they could do anything about it, Fox can't do anything about RR's plans to be in both Deadpool and GL. Plus, I think Portman would be very much enticed by what is arguably an iconic role.

Bosworth was brutal, I'm not sure whether it was a case of how the character was written or how she portrayed Lois, maybe it was a bit of both!

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :(

    This is taken from comicbookmovie.com

The keen eyes over at Slash Film, have once again spotted CBM news overshadowed, now involving the Zack Snyder's revival of The Man Of Steel. New York Magazine's Vulture may have revealed minor details behind the script, written by David S. Goyer and supervised by Christopher Nolan.

In Vulture's article, focused on recent reports of Twentieth Century Fox offering Wolverine 2 to Darren Aronofsky, they state, "Until last weekend, though, Aronofsky was far more interested in directing WB's original take on Superman — in which Clark Kent is a journalist traveling the world trying to decide if he should, in fact, even become Superman — than doing a sequel like Wolverine 2."

(Sidenote: This travelling journalist idea would seem to follow DC's limited comics series called Superman: Birthright which modernized Superman's origin story somewhat. In that comic, freelancer Clark is a newbie reporter in his early twenties covering international news. While covering an ethnic conflict he uses his super powers on an assassin, resulting in an internal conflict whereby he returns home to learn more about his alien heritage--and eventually forming his character as Superman.)

And while Zack Snyder was announced & confirmed to director last Monday, Vulture includes the following eyebrow-raising info; "We're told by knowledgeable insiders the reason Warner Bros. picked Snyder for Man of Steel is that the script by David Goyer was rushed, is still a bit of a mess, and that Warner Bros. needs someone who won't spend months or even years trying to get it just right (i.e. Aronofsky), because time is the one thing they don't have."

The site further claims, "We're told that Snyder was not really Warner's first choice to direct Superman. And privately, even Snyder has confided to agency sources that the current Superman script needs work, but clearly Warner Bros. believes he can get it done faster than Aronofsky."

It's well known that Warner Bros. must have a new Superman movie in production by 2011, to avoid potential lawsuits by the superhero's creators. And that fact is the only thing making this news plausible, therefore take this with a grain of salt. But whether its true or not, General Zod is speculated for the villain of the film, which is targeted for a 2012 holiday release.

CULVER CITY, Calif., October 11, 2010 – Rhys Ifans will play the villain, opposite Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, in the next installment of Spider-Man from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios, it was announced today by Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment and Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures. The film, to be directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and produced by Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, will begin production in December and will be released in theaters nationwide in 3D on July 3, 2012.

Commenting on the announcement, Tolmach said, “We have been very fortunate to attract some of the best actors working today to play the villains in the Spider-Man movies, and it is exciting to see that trend continue with Rhys Ifans. After seeing his performance in our upcoming film Anonymous, we’re in awe of his talent and think he’s the perfect choice to take on this role.”

The filmmakers prefer to not reveal which character Ifans will be playing in the forthcoming film.

Webb added, “What sets the Spider-Man villains apart is the complexity of their relationships with Peter Parker. Rhys’ incredible ability to embody both warmth and rage makes him the ideal choice for this character.”

Spider-Man is being overseen at the studio by Tolmach and Rachel O’Connor. Ifans is represented by United Talent Agency, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Independent Talent Group.

RHYS IFANS’ breakout performance came in 1999 in Roger Michell’s Notting Hill, opposite Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, for which he received a BAFTA Film Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role. Prior to that, Ifans starred in Heart, Twin Town, August, and Dancing at Lughnasa, and since then, he has appeared in more than 20 films, including Vanity Fair; Rancid Aluminium, Little Nicky; The Replacements; Hannibal Rising, Enduring Love; Human Nature; Formula 51; Hotel; The Shipping News; Once Upon A Time in the Midlands, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Pirate Radio; Greenberg; and Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang. He will next appear in Mr. Nice, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Passion Play, and Columbia Pictures’ Anonymous, for director Roland Emmerich.

On television, he played the role of Peter Cook in Terry Johnson’s “Not Only But Always,” for which he won the BAFTA TV Award for Best Actor. He also appeared in “A Number.” In the theatre, Ifans has appeared in “Accidental Death of an Anarchist,” “Bad Finger,” “Volpone,” “Under Milk Wood,” “Beautiful Thing,” “Thyesters,” and, most recently, Patrick Marber’s adaptation of “Don Juan in Soho” at the Donmar Warehouse.

I'd say he signed up for a cheap enough price, in fact, I'd say Garfield and Stone came pretty cheap too. Maybe Sony reckon that Spider-Man will sell big regardless of the cast. Which is a fair enough policy. I never heard of Tobey Maguire before Spider-Man. I knew of Kirsten Dunst but she was still very much an actress trying to make her way in the business at the time. I wouldn't say Dafoe would have been commanding a high price at the time either.

Have a sneaky feeling that the
    death of Gwen Stacy
    storyline is on the cards.

Figured I better put in a spolier for any non comic book folk out there in case this is the way the film goes.:)

Might make sense to use Norman again, especially given his high profile in the Marvel comic universe over the last few years through Secret Invasion/Dark Reign/Siege.

He has pretty much been the main man in Marvel over that time, and any newcomers to comics will associate him with being a top bad guy.

That would be a good story arc! I really need to finish Secret Invasion so I can get onto Dark Reign

It would take a lot of bottle to kill off a female lead in what will largely be a movie directed at kids! I couldn't even barely believe it when Nolan did it in TDK! :D

To not go down that route though may just leave us with very little emotional thump and also risks becoming just a re-run of the first Raimi film.

    Gwen
    has to die :D

It sets up Osborn as a more serious enemy for Peter, and also acts as a reminder for Peter/the audience of the "with great power comes great responsibilty" lesson that was dished out when
    Uncle Ben
    was murdered.

Heck even in the Ultimate Universe the same character was killed off, although by a more symbiotic villan in that version. :)

I hope you're right, it would definitely be compelling to watch. Still, I has a sad at the thought of watching Emma Stone dying on screen. :( Kirsten Dunst would have been a different story altogether. :P

    Oh
    Dunst
being eaten alive onscreen by the Lizard or being snacked upon by Morbius, or being gored by Rhino, or being dropped from a height by the Vulture, or spending some quality time with Carnage, or being..........

Ahem, anyway it would indeed be a different story if that person was the one to die onscreen. :D

I came across a few tidbits on the debacle that was S-M3 on another forum. I have to say, putting it all together it makes for a much more coherent film:
Raimi's original cut was nearly 3 hours long. The studio asked him to cut it down. We also know that a lot of additional scenes were shot but were cut. So for all you or myself know, Raimi's original film could have been so much better. A lot of the things that I hated in SM3 were not in his original. Mary Jane goes to Harry to ask for help because Gwen was the one that was kidnapped by Venom so no butler. Venom threatens Sandman at the park to help him destroy Spider-Man or else he will hurt his kid so no random alley team up. Sandman has a lot more depth as he visits his girl's doctor and beats him up. Sandman's daughter also stops him from killing Spider-Man. Of course we will never know what SM3 would have been like had the studio left the creative minds alone but alas.
One was Flint's daughter playing in a sandbox and there was a huge sandcastle she was playing with. It was Flint being close to his daughter. Well Eddie shows up to the park and Flint and Eddie talk and that is when they team up.

In the original trailer, MJ goes to Harry to convince him that Peter needs help so MJ was the one that convinces Harry to go help Peter save Gwen.

I believe they said that they shot 3 or 4 endings for the film and one was Flint with a sand ball with spikes about to kill Spider-Man and Flint's wife and daughter show up.

There is also another set pic where Sandman goes to his daughter's doctor and throws him into the wall on an xray viewing box.

Someone put together a list of what we know was filmed with pictures in the old Spider-Man 3 thread.

Karl Urban on the new Dredd script.
"The Dredd story we are going to tell is really a day in the life of Dredd as he puts his rookie through her paces to determine whether she's going to make it as a judge. It's certainly going to be a high-octane, action-fueled kind of a film. I feel very confident that this is going to be the ‘Judge Dredd' movie that audiences have been waiting for since 1977. I say that because we've got (Judge Dredd co-creator) John Wagner on board and he's 100 percent behind what we are doing. I think we're just going to be a lot closer to the source material than any other version that's been made."

i know its incredibly fan wanky but apart of me would love to see a dredd film that focused on judge death and his mates.

always thought he was one of the better villains.

    :)

still, maybe for the sequel !

Hmmm interesting. I wonder if they intend to have Judge Perrier as the rookie. If I remember right Dredd referred to her as the best recruit/rookie to be trained under him
after she met her end in Judgement Day.

Editing could be better for me as it doesn't really run from scene to scene smoothly. Would have liked a few close ups too such as when the frost giant takes the hammer to the face. :pac: Other than that though it is a very good trailer, a huge step up on the GL trailer.

Enjoyed that trailer, although I am still struggling to accept Hopkins as Odin.

Would have loved to have seen Vladimir Kulich as Odin. He would have the physical presence for the role, and would have suited the role more than Hopkins does for me.

Kulich with a beard would easily pass as the All Father and would be easier to buy into as a powerful warrior in his own right.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,905 ✭✭✭✭Handsome Bob

Aye, there could have been better physical matches for the role but I think Marvel wanted to surround the relatively unknown Hemsworth with names such as Hopkins, Portman and to a lesser extent Elba.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,560 ✭✭✭✭Kess73

Yeah, that could be part of it alright.

What the months and months of preview pics leading up to the official trailer has done is change my initial reservations about the film.

I have gone from being quite sceptical to actually looking forward to it. Have quite a bit of gra for Norse mythology through one of my grandparents having been Danish, with the young Kess lapping up the old stories in the same eager manner he did the tales of Irish mythology. Hence the Mjollnir tattoo on my right shoulder. :D

There seems to be talk of 'Justice League Batman' being a one-off entity unrelated to any further Batman franchise. Not sure if I'd be wild about this... ideally I'd rather if they let a potential 'new' Batman franchise establish itself before proceeding with Justice League. Of course the problem with that it's probably too soon to be setting up a new Bat-series. Also the fact that the existing Nolan-series doesn't seem suited towards the more sci-fi/fantasy based Justice League scenario.

    Unfortunate timing I guess.

They could use the JLA movie to reboot/start all their DC franchises(apart from Supes) if they want. If it's a success it would be a pretty cost effective way of doing it, rather than making 4 or 5 seperate movies.

With Man of Steel coming out though its looking like they might actually end up with a few seperate DC universes on the go at once unless they throw in a few hints at a wider universe or at least cast Caville in JLA.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,940 ✭✭✭Corkfeen

I always assumed that Man of Steel would end up being part of the JLA world seems like the obvious way to go with it. Don't really like the idea of two supermen (That's the plural right?). I'm not sure if it'd bode well for the average cinema-goers reception of JLA either.

Yeh, I'd imagine that they'd try to avoid having two versions of the same character on the go simultaneously. (Is Ryan Reynolds' Green Lantern not being tied in as well?).

I see what you mean, it would certainly provide a springboard for some of the less prolific characters.

I can't help but think though that the next Batman might exist solely for because the JLA film needs him to, whereas at least Cavill's Superman will have existed in his own right. (apologies if this makes no sense!)

The Grey's Frank Grillo is now set to play the villainous Crossbones in Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier, according to Variety. The news comes a week after Grillo tweeted about his audition for a part in the anticipated sequel, and hinted at the character using the hashtag "bones."

Grillo confirmed the casting via Twitter: "Thanks all!! Couldn't be happier to join the Marvel family. Great people. Great character and. My kids will freak out best of all. #grateful"
    http://ie.ign.com/articles/2012/10/29/frank-grillo-cast-as-crossbones-in-captain-america-2

Also, some chap on twitter said this on his casting:
    Joe Carnahan@carnojoe
A friend of a friend who witnessed @FrankGrillo's Marvel screen test in person said 'He made the other actors look like extras...'
Finally, one last Cap 2 tidbit:
Actors Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim), Josh Holloway (Lost), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones), and Kevin Durand (Resident Evil: Retribution, also Lost) are all reportedly up for roles in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
    http://ie.ign.com/articles/2012/10/20/scott-pilgrim-game-of-thrones-and-lost-actors-up-for-cap-2

    Latest rumour suggests that
After weeks of conflicting reports, various sources are reporting that British actress Jessica Brown Findlay is the current casting favorite for Sharon Carter – S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, possible Cap love interest, and niece of the original film’s Peggy Carter.
    http://screenrant.com/captain-america-2-sharon-carter-jessica-brown-findlay/

To be honest, I'd actually prefer if MEW got the role of Sharon Carter as I'd be willing to bet on her having great chemistry with Evans.
