Apparently it does help to prevent the pipes from freezing, however the local authorities are asking people not to do this in order to conserve water.

Anyone know where to get some hiking boots in the Dublin 18 area? There's a Lidl nearby but they seem to get things in batches there and then you don't see them again for ages.

I think there's some place called Snow and Rock in Dundrum but I've never been to it. I also don't know the first thing about hiking boots either.

Snow and Rock will have them but they are not cheep. http://www.outdoorevolution.ie/ in Blessington (run by a friend of mine) they have a good section. In the city center there is Great Outdoors and Outdoor Adventure Store, some shoe shops will have a small section too.

I wonder will they pay for any damage if pipes freeze or burst.

I have cold Shower running at a low force but enough to keep water going through tank. I can here in gurgling. It would be my worst nightmare if pipes burst, on my own in house with kids.

That's exactly what I was going to ask. Going to inform the girlfriend in the morning who is tucked up in bed under three quilts which is exactly where I should be. Looking for temperatures in and around Dublin, Ranelgh in particular.

Posted about this in another thread on boards earlier but I am sure given the interest in the cold weather on this forum people here would enjoy it.

Watched Encounters at the End of the World last night and thought it was pretty amazing in parts. It's about people who live in and around McMurdo in Antarctica. It interviews a number of people including a few scientists that discuss certain things affecting our weather that they are studying in the region.

And here's the link to it for anyone who's interested.http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/encounters-at-the-end-of-the-world/ im just about to watch it as i fall asleep. This is an amazing documentary site btw, bookmark it. Night all :)

Saying -6 on my itouch btw but meh, probably ain't. It's not too reliable I'd say. Silent, fresh and crispy outside tho. I'd love to go for a walk except it's 2:15am and that would be mad and I'm dosed with the flu also lol

precipitation for north dublin on the radar.

Was Mickey mouse in north Dublin. A dribble.

By the way bbc report -7c at Dublin airport at 11pm.

    BBC are not calling 'Sunday'.

Who will be right sky or BBC?

I'm liable to go sky for immediate forecasts but BBC have as good an idea as anyone on 24 hours plus.
