The ICE is bad, not the snow as much and I've experienced plenty of extremely dangerous driving conditions caused by howling winds and torrents of rain that are likely to blow your car off the road. And the country just isn't prepared for this type of weather. With a little bit more preparation I'd prefer this type of cold over horrible stinging windy rain all the time.

    OK.

    Maybe I'm mistaking things.
I thought that the ICE was a result of the snow.
    Am I wrong?

    Not in Donegal

Driving in the snow is pretty safe but driving on compacted snow/black ice is different, especially on hills. Its not about drivings lads, its physics.

Posted about this in another thread on boards earlier but I am sure given the interest in the cold weather on this forum people here would enjoy it.

Watched Encounters at the End of the World last night and thought it was pretty amazing in parts. It's about people who live in and around McMurdo in Antarctica. It interviews a number of people including a few scientists that discuss certain things affecting our weather that they are studying in the region.

    Opr

As I look up high through the fog to NE i can just make out some high cloud tops approaching. Fog too thick to see anywhere near hozizon.

I can drive safely in the rain.

This is true, but driving in this snow is giving us the experience we need to learn. Ive never drivin in this type of weather and although my heart has been in my mouth a few times, im still enjoying the experience. Who knew a front wheel could drift around corners :P

It is unsafe though for some members of the irish community, but it'll be gone before we know it.

Remember all, make sure friends and old people are safe. Especially those in isolated areas. Enjoy all the snow.

I guess all that we can be sure of is...that we can't be sure what it's going to do. This is turning into mental torture (of the self inflicted variety) I'm gonna have to go cold turkey on this thread for a while before I drive myself insane.

If it snows yippee...if it don't then hey ho!

Thanks for all the info peeps...might just take a sneaky peek in here on Saturday for a Snowmageddon update. Fingers crossed.

good luck staying away, tried that many times myself

Given it's only midnight Casement record could be under threat. Around -12c I think?

    -12.4c to be exact.

    Eh, good point kopp.

All we want is a little bit of snow down here in cork..just a tiny bit to say that we atleast got some :D

Looking at the pic of Britain and Ireland its disheartening to see how green we are down here compared to the rest,

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,863 ✭✭✭Papa_Lazarou

Seems to be some very serious fog pushing in on south Cork at the moment. Cant see very far out from my window at the moment.

Erm, you sure about that? This satellite picture was taken like what, 8 hours ago? Unless you've linked a wrong one...

  • Subscribers Posts: 8,322 ✭✭✭Scubadevils

    And pretty much stopped again!

I had intended staying away from here tonight and catching up with equally important things such as Modern Warfare 2  (except for getting my ass shot off all night)

but this is severe cold weather, when we get severe weather when its mild our problems turn to storms and floods. people have short memories me thinks. Just enjoy the weather whatever it is. We cant change it cant control it just live with it.
