 God forbid we might get a bit of fun out of the snow. I'd have thought the anti-fun brigade would be delighted- the location and time has been advertised; you can avoid any bit of fun or spontaneousness in your joyless lives!

You mean former welfare officer? A tad cynical to say its to boost his campaign tho...

Why does someone organize a snowball fight under their election campaign profile instead of their normal profile?? Hmmm.

Im all for snowball fights. Electioneering is different.

Anyone near UCC staying home? Im 5 miles out, usually cycle, could be dodge...

i'm snowed in waterford anyway, cant get 20ft from my front gate. They'll be no sweets sold in WGB tomorrow :) actually would anyone have a number for security there handy? I'm expecting a delivery in the morning.

Yeah i'm in Douglas, usually walk in, don't know what i'm gonna do, apparently there's been 4 crashes in the village already so I doubt the bus will be running.

I'll be going in anyway, I've an important lecture at 4 which myself and my class really need, so fingers crossed that will be on. If not, and the library etc are open, I've plenty of work to be doing.

Just put socks over your shoes, and you will NOT slip, guaranteed.

Wow, harsh. Keith might across as a bit of a muppet if ya don't know him but he's a very genuine guy!

I live in Togher, normally get the bus but they're delayed. Doubt I'll make my 11 o clock lecture tbh

021-4902266 is the main security number, they'll connect you below.

    you're telling me I can't get a packet of tayto tomorrow? that's it I'm staying home :)
I'm not sure what I'll do tomorrow. I guess I'll head in and see if they let me into the building. I was warned last week that they might not have the WGB open at 9 with the shutdown over the weekend. I hope they have the heating back, they didn't last time!

Nice post, I've disliked the guy since day 1. He used to do security in the Brog, so we had many a run in before I started in UCC.

@Trent L: Just because the personal abuse you threw at me was in an image doesnt make in any better. Its an unwritten Boards.ie rule that once you resort to personal abuse you lose the debate. (And I dont look kindly on people thanking a post that is nothing but personal abuse either).

I'm sure thebigcheese22, craving your approval, will unthank that post immediately :)

And you're being very selective in what personal abuse you're choosing to see here.

No one else personally abused my. bigcheese22 offered a critique of my opinion. You, on the other hand, suggested I "get a life." Attack the post, not the poster.

Im not discussing it here anymore. If you want to talk about it more drop me a PM.

Might give tomorrow a skip. Cycling in the snow doesnt sound appealing :)

I have a feeling that I'll make the trek up to UCC tomorrow and half my lecturers won't be there.

Or as always happens to me, you could stay at home and then learn later that there was more people than ever in the class.

    Just got this email.

Due to the inclement weather, the 1st Year Option "US Foreign Policy and the Cold War" scheduled for Monday 11 January at 9:00 a.m., has been cancelled.

    Best Wishes,
    Michael Cullinane and David Ryan

I was supposed to be out on placement, but the schools are closed, so we don't have it till Thursday. Supposed to have a maths lecture on Tuesday, but I'll have to see about going, very dangerous where I live!

Just read on the RTÉ live updates page that W.I.T is closed tomorrow and Tuesday...

I'm in that class, seems it was sent to all students.

I didn't bother travelling back tonight, will give it a go tomorrow. Need to get going on some essays. A couple days or a week off lectures would be handy to give me some time to do work.

Also got an email stating that my lab at 3.30 tomorrow is still going ahead :(:(:(
The walk to college in the morning is going to be awful, I can see a normally 15 minute journey becoming a 30 -40 min trek in freezing conditions.

Got an email stating that we now have lectures as normal 2moro - there is no hope in hell I can get in!

    From SU Deputy President.

    Hi Everyone!

I hope everyone is enjoying the Snow!!

F**k off. The snow is a nightmare, not enjoyable.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 614 ✭✭✭blankblank

I think anybody who thinks there at risk by travalling should not bother with tomorrow, the college wont be long shutting up if the numbers in the morning are small.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,443 ✭✭✭Byron85

Interesting. Someone just posted this over on the S.U Facebook,
I've just got emails from my lectures saying that there won't be any lectures tomorrow due to the weather so i say most lectures will be cancelled! Thats just the politics department though dunno about the others!

We don't have lectures 2moro, some f**king mix up, we start out TP on Thursday when the schools get back.

The college are putting peoples lives (both the students and lecturers) at risk by asking them to be in tomorrow. The buses and taxis aren't running, the snow is freezing now and will be much more dangerous 2moro than today.

The place this morning is ridiculous, its virtually impossible to walk at any pace other than a crawl, a few days off is in order till the weather gets better

I'll soon find out. Leaving my place on the Douglas Road in a minute.

I walked down to UCC from Shanakiel this morning. What was usually a 10 minute walk became a half hour walk and a bloody dangerous one at that. Cars cannot get up or down Shanakiel Road. Where's the bloody salt????? Western road was salted but I think most of the small roads off college road are a disaster, especially any hills.

My building is deserted and I just read that my first lecture is cancelled so I'd better do some project work to make it worth coming in. Be careful if you go outside today.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 224 ✭✭J2D2

No 9am lecture this morning, Lecturer didnt show but most of the class did. :pac: Would be great to know if they were all called off so I could get some project work done instead though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,745 ✭✭✭Eliot Rosewater

Well Im glad I didn't come in in that case. Ill miss 3 lectures this morning, but Ill head into the one later by car Id say.

I was supposed to have Programming in C but I figured Id be able to work from home; just work on some web tutorials today or something.

That was some trek getting in here from wilton. Frozen snow and footpaths are now a good combination!

So, who do you go to to complain if you had a fall on the way in this morning?:D

I'm in the mostly deserted WGB.
walked across town from the train station, no bother. it's not as slippy today as it has been other days.
there was a fun bit where I started sliding towards the road (with traffic on it) on patrick's bridge, but I stopped in time. other than that it was fine.

Drove down from Limerick this morning. Roads bad but still navigable. In the 3 mins i was driving along washington st and western road, i saw 3 people falling on their arses. I nearly slipped myself walking in my front door. Whatever person in UCC decided that lectures today should go ahead should be ashamed of themselves. People are taking their lives in their hands out there!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,046 ✭✭✭✭titan18

After Castlewhite, the footpath in front of the construction site, towards the WGB is really slippery.Walk onto the road if you don't want to fall.Seen a few people fall there and nearly went myself on it before I got onto the road.

This morning was a complete joke. I almost completely floored myself numerous times. It's not as bad now as all the snow has turned into slush and have a guess what'll happen to that slush once the temperature drops below zero tonight. It'll be even worse in the morning.

Luckily it seems it won't freeze tonight! So things might be OK,The SU are looking for people to clear up snow around campus which is a good thing to do,But it should really be down to the idiots who thought it was safe to open college today..

Considering heading back up to Cork, as most of the snow has thawed out down here at home. Whats it like up there?? Would I be a crazy person to head up? Is the number 8 running? and hows Western Rd for walking in?

UCC and the surrounding area is a complete ****ing joke today, I, like many others, took serious risks to get in here, only to find cancelled lectures and so on. The important lecture which was my reasoning for coming in was cancelled; I was informed by a text from the lecturer at 1pm, just as I approached UCC from Western Road.

I've slipped, ****ed up my ankle, and have no way of getting home. Wonderful. I guess the best I can do is lock myself into the library and get a few essays done, and hope that things have thawed a bit by nighttime.

I had lectures at 10 and 11 but didn't bother going in for them; I don't even know if they went ahead or not. I only came into college to use the internet and really wish I hadn't. Not looking forward to walking home.

Have a lecture at 9 tomorrow but there's no way I'm getting up for it if the place is anything like today. I reckon if it hadn't been for the November floods, the management probably would have closed down the college.

According to a lecturer from the Geography department who I was talking to earlier, there is something coming up from Portugal, which could well result in floods over the next few days. You could'nt write some of this stuff, there's no relief whatsoever for Ireland at the moment! :)

Just got an essay printed out, I've a lecture at 5 which apparently is going ahead, it'll be interesting to see if there's many in it. Then I'm coming back in to finish my 3,000 German-Irish relations essay, of which I already have 1,500 done. If I finish that then I'll count my day as a success.

    Says on met.ie :
Cold tonight with frost and some icy patches. The patchy sleet and snow over Ulster dying out later also.
Very windy later tonight and tomorrow, with heavy rain pushing up from the southwest during the day, preceded by sleet and snow for a time.
Some flooding likely, from heavy rain and snow melt, with Munster and parts of Leinster most at risk.
