Now for stupid question time. In the first and third photo there seems to be a ridge of snow forming at the top of Lugnaquilla. With the amount of fresh snow that has fallen and will continue to fall for another few hours, is there any danger of a small avalanche?

Leincar, there has been a steady buildup of snow in the mountains since the 20/12/09. The temperatures have remained low and have rarley risen above 0 degrees. Because of this the snow hasn't had a chance to thaw and then refreeze, this would consolidate it. Most of the snow is just very deep powder and poses a very serious avalanche hazard, upto category 5 in many places (this is at the top of the scale). Mountaineering Ireland has issued a severe avalanche warning for the whole country. If we do get another good freeze after this thaw then hopefully everything will stabilize and provide us with excellent climbing conditions (thats what im hoping anyway).
