Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi, I am trying to open a MS word doc but the following message pops up

'There is not enough memory to open file, close your document, close your programs and try again'.

Cannot seem to get it to open no matter what I do. Although my OS (C:) does only have 2.25 GB left out of 138 GB. Been meaning to do a big sweep on the computer for a while to get rid of loads of junk files and programmes that are taking up space. Is this why I cannot open the MS Word doc? The doc size is 388 kb.

Seems like a shortage of ram memory rather than hard drive space. Click "start" -> "run" and type "msconfig" (without quotes). Click on startup tab and deselect (un-click) all the fields except for your anti virus program. Click apply and restart pc. Should work. ;)

    Wouldn't really advice doing that!

OP can you open other word documents?

Thanks, tried it though and still no luck opening the document.

Sounds like a corrupted or 'newer' doc. Is it a .docx from someone with a newer version of office? Try installing docx converters and then reopen.

Yeah, other word files open fine.

OK well then the word doc must be corrupted, especially if its only 388 kb in size.

There is a guide here with some suggestions for recovering a corrupted word doc.

Why not? This selection does not hold any useful system files or services being loaded into memory at startup, just user selected / installed junk.

Not services but applications would not startup as requested. A good example would be a 3rd party wireless utulity. If that was disabled from startup the OP would be unable to connect to his wifi network.

I know it's safe to disable some of them but it's not safe to disable them all as we have no idea what the OP is running on his pc / laptop.

Fair enough, up to a point. It's fairly easy to pick out what's really needed, as opposed to two dozen entries that make a short meal out of your ram. Btw, it's better to let windows manage wireless through zero configuration utility, rather than proprietary utilities that often ship with wifi cards. It creates much less hassle, in my own experience.

Sorry OP, this is bit OT. No more, hope you were able to recover that .doc.

Thanks guys, got it open! Saved it to desktop and then right clicked and opened with a different version of MS Word that is on my computer. Thanks again :)
