Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The snow is melting (in the GDA) and will melt tomorrow elsewhere (on reasonably low ground) so we can all get back to work in our cars, trains, buses and bikes. Roll on the spring! Are we all sick and tired of moaning about the cold spell and snow?

I just have to negociate my way out of this to a wet and soggy main road.

Over here, snow clearance is partially done by municipal employees but a lot of it is contracted out - it's good business for landscaping contractors who buy a snow plough which mounts on their trucks and then sign up with the local municipalities. It's a big help to them as there isn't much landscaping done when the ground freezes.

Local bylaws usually mandate the homeowner/landlord to keep the footpath outside their place clear within 12 hours of the snowfall although that tends to depend on enforcement. Obviously pushing snow into the middle of the road is verboten but some p****s do it anyway.

Straight salt only works to about -10C so normally I try and get my hands on the mixes that work at lower temps.

Dry fluffy snow is no problem to clear but wet snow (snow/rain mix) is rotten - it doesn't look like much until you put a snowshovel to it and then it feels like you're lifting lead.

Whatever happened to the 'weather event' that Met Eireann were forecasting for today? Even here in the Soggy South East the thaw is on and only a few flakes fell today. All their forecast did was cause panic buying in the supermarkets yesterday - still it's an ill wind.......:pac:

Exactly...some supermarkets were sold out of water yesterday here. Such a letdown really. Load of fuss about sweet fa to be honest. Wednesday was far more significant here.

Rained last night in wicklow town.
Roads all clear though dirty with all the grit.

I live in an area overlooking the main girls primary/secondary schools in the town & there isnt a spack of frost there anymore.

Schools should open here, but wont.

Was hoping for a decent bit of snow today to play in but got about an inch

We would be moaning even more though if they had said it would rain and we got a foot of snow instead. A few flakes falling now and it's around 0 deg. Us and our neighbours have had no water for a couple of days so a thaw would be welcome.

It snowed solidly all day in Limerick, with 5 cm accumulation. Now it did start thawing about 8PM, but it was inconvenient to say the least. If the temp was about 1 or 2 degrees less, there wouldn't have been a thaw.

I believe there was uncertainly which weather system would acheive dominance - the Atlantic or the continental one with all the cold and snow. Until last night, BBC were still forecasting a truckload of snow on Wednesday (yesterday's snow was light snow and "heavy" snow was forecast day and night).

Why should he, he could have done nothing about it anyway.

edit: Ah, I see what you did there :p Brain hasn't defrosted yet.

Now that the road situation is starting to get good, maybe they could do something about footpaths too.

They never should have closed in Galway City and many parts of the County....but they did.
