Probably should of done that but too late now!

OCC, I'll look in a little while mate if I've a chance as I'm flat out atm. :pac: On first looks, he has a huge chance but Henderson's would scare the life out of me and make it a no bet.

    3:35 Kempton - Barwell Bridge - 2.5pts e/w @ 10/1 (Bet365 - 5 places)

Another previous selection of mine when coming 2nd of 16 at Cheltenham last time out, in what was a very competitive handicap. He was beaten by a very good horse on the day but can be considered very unlucky to be carried left by the 3rd placed horse in the run in, which cost him valuable momentum and ultimately, the race. That was his first run over 3 miles and he traveled well, jumped well and looked like he was going to get off the mark for the first time since making a successful debut over hurdles back in December of 09. He was a decent type on the flat, reach a career high mark of 92 and seems to be going the right way over hurdles too, with his consistency being his strong point, 1 win, 4 seconds and 3 fifths in 7 starts. A 5th place finish in the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham festival was probably the pinnacle of his hurdling career so far and even then he always shaped as if he would be a good staying hurdler, despite matching some of the best over 2m 1f. He stayed on from a long way back having been outpaced at Cheltenham and I believe he's a top class animal on his day, but possibly his consistency is costing him as he has gone up 9lbs in weight, despite not winning. His only win over hurdles came at Ffos Las, a similarly flat track to Kempton. I think this is the ideal place for Barwell Bridge to finally make his mark on the big stage, especially as he now gets some cut in the ground, on which he will have no problems with over this trip, but he seems to get outpaced easily over shorter trips when there's cut in the ground.

I find it very interesting that Jason Maguire takes the ride, just the second time he does so for trainer Warren Greatrex. He's an exceptional jockey in my opinion and could well benefit Barwell Bridge to no end, even though he has had good jockey on him every time. Maguire has a fine record at Kempton, having scored on 8 of his 50 rides, which gives him an impressive 16% strike rate and a massive LSP of £45. Greatrex also has a decent strike rate at Kempton, having scored with 14% of his runners and shows a small LSP. This horse is suited to big fields, with form of 2-5-2 where there has been 16 or more runners. He faces 19 opponents here and I believe he could well have the beating of the lot of them if he shows up as well as he has done last twice. I'm expecting a very strong gallop as there are many prominent racers in the field and this will be exactly what my selection needs. A good stamina test on soft ground at a sharpish course will be ideal and I expect he'll take a lot of beating, assuming he gets some luck in running, as he's a hold up horse. The 10/1 available looks very big to me as I think he's the one to beat and market him up as the 6/1 favourite in my book. Maximum each way stakes as I just can't get away from him every time I look at a different angle. He has all the ability in the world to win at this level and I'm just hoping he'll show it today. 5 places being paid too, which is a massive incentive, assuming none drop out.

Ah finally I can sit at the laptop for a weekend and enjoy the racing and footy instead of work. Definitely on Riverside Theatre myself tomorrow. That horse is going to win me money at some stage. Think I'll follow your other picks too. Been a while since I enjoyed a Pyro Profit Saturday. Good Luck.

Fucking 5th place for Aather, with first 4 paid for places. Well punted into 15/2 also.

Pisses me off when they finish one off the placings, I'd rather he came last.

Without a doubt the most annoying thing. Worse when they're beaten in a photo for a place.

He never even once acted up before a race. Must of been severely spooked.

I'm starting to think I'm just severely bad luck at the moment.

Tell you what Pete, next time why don't you back the horses you think have won well - instead of just talking about it, maybe then you'll actually like, you know .. win some money

  • Moderators Posts: 8,719 ✭✭✭x PyRo

    Unlucky Pete.

Escort'men was waaaay out of his league or else something just wasn't right. Couldn't keep up with them.

Binocular was sublime, one of the few times he has run close to his rating. He's even better than that at his best.

I don't quite understand this comment. Was there something with McCoy's ride you felt hindered Kauto's chances of winning?

    -8pts today.

    Bank - 306.58pts (+206.58pts)

    Yearly P/(L) - -22.95pts

A significant break is on the cards.

A couple of outsiders for Sunday. Small stakes and short write ups.

    3:05 Southwell - Saorocain - 0.5pts e/w

I'm going to take a minimal each way stakes chance on this 5 year old Mare who has little, if any, form. She was formerly running in Ireland, showed nothing in numerous races before joining Pat Morris but looks interesting to me now at Southwell, a place where her sire has a 13% strike rate. This is an awful race, with similarly poor horses and I feel if Morris has brought here up to anything close to what breeding suggests she could be, then there could be a chance of a return. Saorocain is well related to many low level winners and runs here off a mark of 45, which surely isn't beyond her if she's in any way decent on debut for a very inform stable, who have had a few big priced places lately. I'd imagine she'll be around the 25/1 mark and I'll happily take a chance at those odds once it's priced up. She has been off the track for over 400 days but has a few entries in the next 3 to 5 days, which is interesting and any market support would be very significant. Morris does have another more fancied runner here but that horse is an 18 race maiden and likely to be around the 5/1 mark, plus my selection has the better jockey on board, with Cathy Gannon taking the reins. Could be worth a small bet in the hope of a much improved run.

    3:35 Southwell - Prince Of Vasa - 0.5pts e/w @ 25/1 (Bet365)

Bred by the same sire as my other selection but cost a lot more money having fetched 55k as a 2 year old. He then had 1 run for Saeed Bin Suroor, over 6f here, in which he finished a 3 length 3rd, with the two ahead of him going on to reach a peak rating of 108 & 92. Prince Of Vasa pulled hard throughout before eventually getting to grips with the racing game to make a move just over 2 out, he looked likely to get involved but had run his race when he came to the final furlong. It wasn't a bad performance though and one that makes him interesting on his first fibersand since that debut. He then went to Mark Johnston, won a maiden first time out then flopped in a hot handicap before leaving Johnston for only 7k. Michael Smith picked him up and managed to get him to come 2nd at 22/1 in a 6f class 4 handicap at Redcar on debut. He done nothing since but has had a break after an unsuccessful spin over hurdles and gets to run here off a mark of 76, which may not be beyond him. Looks too big a price for me and does go well fresh, having finished 1st and 2nd on the back of 2 previous break, along with the fact that he ran well on debut too. Smith makes a 350 mile round trip to a course he has only visited on 2 occasions, with 3 horses. He managed to get 2 second places and will hopefully go one better here today. It doesn't look an overly impossible task to me and the price is much to big given the horses ability, which he doesn't show too often. They should go a good gallop and that will suit, so it's all up to the horse to prove he still retains his abilities after being let go for small money from Johnston's yard. Minimal each way stakes again, in the hope that he can make something happen.

Not sure if I'll have anything else, still searching.

    Price updated in morning

    Last one..

    2:40 Ffos Las - Scoter Fontaine - 1pt e/w @ 9/1 (WillHill)

Lightly raced 5 year old out of the Rebecca Curtis stable, who steps up to 2m 4f for the first time having been campaigned around 16/17f so far. He put in a poor performance last time out when fading tamely after being sent off an 11/4 favourite on his handicap debut. However, he now steps up in trip and comes to a flat, galloping track, which should suit ideally. The soft ground is no problem as he has faced soft-ish ground on 4 of his 5 career starts and appears to handle it OK. They should go a good gallop here and Scoter Fontaine will be ideally suited by this, as he's a very strong traveler usually and still has a lot more to offer off a mark of 117. Curtis and Tony McCoy have a 33% strike rate from 75 runners when pairing up and a massive 47% strike rate over the Ffos Las hurdles, with 4 winners from 7 runners, although none were very good prices and expected to win. The horse has no problems with coping with a big field, having placed in a 20 runner NHF race on debut and placed again in a 16 runner race on his hurdling debut. He'll be covered up in behind I'd imagine, as prominent tactics didn't seem to suit last time out and I'm hoping the new distance/suitable track combination will play completely to his strengths, as I expect. 9/1 looks vastly overpriced to me and I'd have a much bigger bet if I wasn't in such rotten form. He's a 5/1 shot in my book and has a very good chance of grabbing one of the four available places. Small each way bet in what looks a competitive handicap but one that shouldn't be beyond this potentially well handicapped hurdler.
