Its ok tell them your worried and they usually give you extra drugs you wont feel a thing. You might lose a little dignity getting into the correct position for the camera up job!!! ;)

Personally I find the Klean Prep worse than the actual procedures, the only real advice I can give there is to read over the information leaflet you've been given and see if you can find a combination of liquids you can mix with it to make it more palatable. I highly recommend a combination of Sudocrem and baby wipes in the bathroom along with something to read, and make sure everyone in the house knows what's going on and ideally you have a bathroom completely to yourself for a few hours at least.

The actual procedures are straightforward and assuming you're being sedated you shouldn't feel or remember much at all. About the worse thing that might happen during the procedure is a bit of cramp like you have some trapped wind; but as I said the likelihood is you won't feel or remember that anyway. You'll get a cup of tea and some toast in bed afterwards and once the sedation has worn off you'll be allowed home.

Afterwards you'll likely have a bit of discomfort at the back of your throat and possibly some other spots where you wouldn't remember ever feeling anything before. No pain or anything, you'll just be aware that something feels a little different.

Hope that helps, best of luck!

I started drinking the klean prep at 4 and only managed to finish the first litre now, my God its nasty. I haven't gone yet anyway, just feel really bloated. How can I make it taste better? Is it okay that I'm drinking it slower than recommended?

Don't worry, it'll start soon enough!

Yeah I generally take about an hour and a half longer than the directions specify, and it does say on the information leaflet that it's okay to drink it more slowly.

My God it tastes bad, nearly gagging. I just have to make sure it's clear coming out on the toilet then that'll be it isn't it?

Yeah it's not very pleasant at all. I'm getting nasty flashbacks just talking about it!

Well generally speaking yes, but in my experience it isn't a very accurate measure of how effective it has been. I would recommend at the very least you drink 3/4 of your dose regardless.

If you've kept an eye on your diet the past few days and reduced your food intake and so on then you might get away with less. However I reckon you're better off being miserable today and tonight just to make sure the consultant gets a good view of everything tomorrow.

If you get 3/4 of the amount down you'll be grand! It prob won't run completely cear, kind of yellow, but don't worry. As a lot of people have said already, the preparation is actually worse than the procedure. Just a tip: You'll be dehydrated tomorrow so finding a vein for injecting the sedative will be harder than usual, so if you have to wait and are feeling cold, ask for a blanket!!! Keep warm and keep the blood vessels dilated.
    Good luck, you'll be fine

I'm nearly finished 2 and a half litres. It's running exactly as you are saying, kind of yellow. I'm meant to finish 3 litres but it will prolly take me till ten o clock, is that even okay?

That sounds fine. The yellow colour is most prob bile, not a residue of something else. Well done for getting all the stuff down. I started throwing up halfway through...

Best Of luck with these cameras 2moro iam getting both of these done next month I normally only get camera going down throat but this time they are doing both

Tell them to give you plenty of sedative you wont remember a thing

All done. Went fairly well in the end. My throat is really sore, all I can remember was gagging alot on the camera as it went down. Then I just woke up back in the ward. The doctor said he thinks it's a bit of ulcerative colitis. I was sorta still out of it when he said it to but I'm meeting with the specialist Feb 9th.

Thanks for all your help folks!

Glad it went well for you! What I didn't tell you yesterday- for me the sedation didn't work, they couldn't find a vein, I was too dehydrated and cold. Therefor my tip about keeping warm! I had the choice of going ahead without sedation or going home. Rather than doing the Klen Prep again I opted for no sedation.
Your throat will be fine in a day or two, take it easy tomorrow and best of luck with the follow up appointment

Yeah, thanks for that. I tried to keep warm. It looked like he wasn't gonna find a vein at one stage but then he did thank God. Thanks for your help and advice, been great help.

Just got referred for cameras up/down today and pelvic ultrasound. Am bricking it. Can't swallow crappy tasting stuff, will vomit that right up. Can I fast for a couple of days instead and just take a bit of it? Or can they not enema me in hospital? If they refer you for up and down, do they do them at the same time too?

you really should discuss those issues with your gp or whoever else ordered these tests

Sarah You normall need to take that stuff the night before the test you could but orange juice in it to take the bad taste out of it

As the previous poster said- mix it with something and you'll be ok. My tip, just mix a glass with juice or squash and see which mixture is ok for you. this is where I went wrong, I did up a whole liter in a flavour I found hard to stomach. Another tip, make it with ice cold water, again that makes it much easier to take.
    Good luck, you'll be grand.

Oh god yes, put it in the fridge! It really isn't that bad at all, just slightly flavoured water.

Hi There that sounds a lot better than 4 ltrs of kleen prep I will ask for picolax when they call me to have this up & down camera test Hopefully they will give it to me
    Thanks bob

When the dust settles, please search youtube for 'Billy Connolly Colonoscopy'. Welcome to the fraternity of turbo-lax recipients :) And good luck, the test itself is a less 'significant' part of the experience, neither of which are painful.

I'm going in tomorrow. Have to drink 2 litres of moviprep tonight. On litre 2 now, mixed with miwadi which took the edge off the taste but is still vile. Hopefully won't have to do this again for a very long time.
