    Just bought a Garmin 1240. Plugged it into my laptop but can't get it to work with the computer. It comes up on D drive but won't do anything else.

    There was no software with it. I assumed it was contained in the unit itself and that it would automatically load.

    Two things you can try:

    1. Download and install the Garmin USB Drivers

    and

    2. Download and install the Garmin WebUpdater

    Garmin WebUpdater is needed to ensure your unit has the latest software & firmware updates.
