Thought this might be interesting if everybody posted their dream equipment they'd like in their lab.
    Mine currently is:

Hellm0, If you're interested in a binaural setup that doesn't cost the earth you can make a pretty ok DIY job of it, instructions here: http://www.minidisc.org/in_ear_mics.html
Check out Mikael Fernstrom, he's a lecturer in UL, works a lot with this exact type of setup, same samples of recordings here:
http://www.idc.ul.ie/mikael/sound.html, and also on a foundsounds site that I can't find the link to right now, but get back to me on it!

I made a set of these myself, recording through a sony MD reorder so the pre-amp isn't the biggest deal, but if you don't have such a thing I did come aross some instructions for a simple pre-amp you can make yourself too if you're any way handy at soldering anyway, I'll probably be rooting around for that for myself soon enough anyway, so get back to me on that one too sure :)

The mics I used for mine were suggested by Mikael and cost about a fiver each from Maplin Part No QY62S, Price around 5 euro.
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=4566 (part number might be different at your local store actually)
The frequency response isn't necessarily the best (50Hz- 13kHz, but you'd get away with it) I'm happy out with my set anyway, they weren't the best at first but the more I used them they warmed up a bit, level increased a bit too, not too shabby! You could always go a bit fancier with the capsules if you shop around and have the cash to spare for them (lowly student budget here like!) just be sure you have the same response from each mic or the effect won't work too well!

    :D

A bombproof safe for storing MY pipettes in would be nice...
