Buying spare batteries (Olympus)

Hey all,

My battery on my camera seems to be dying pretty quickly these days (it's about 6 months old) and so I reckon I should invest in another battery. May never need it, but sure it does no harm to have.


My question is; am I safe enough to buy one off eBay? Or should I stick to a reputable online retailer (if so, any suggestions?).

Secondly, for those of you with spare batteries for a camera... How do you carry it around with you? Can you get little pouches for them or anything? Ihave a small camera bag that I fit my camera into snuggly, and that just goes into a backpack, so I've no camera-specific bag with little pouches for that kind of stuff.

I have bought batteries on Ebay for my DSLRs, they all worked great for me. Also most batteries have a cover with them which makes them safe to carry in a pocket or bag. Price difference is huge against the camera manufacturers brands.

What type of battery is it? Is it for a DSLR or a compact?

Either way, cold weather causes battery power to run out much quicker than hot weather, so if you usually have no problems with battery life, maybe wait until the spring and see if it's still not giving you as many shots per charge as you're expecting.

DSLR. Olympus E-420. Found one on eBay, and the guy is also selling some other weird gizmo flash diffuser.

It'll probably be useless, but I'll buy one anyway. Just to play with.

This is why I shouldn't be allowed use ebay. Ah, sure they're only about, what, €6 each? I may aswell buy them.

Well in that case it's just the cold weather, the BLS-1 battery that fits in the E420 is good for about 500 shots (at least) on one charge.

I've got 3 Olympus ones for 2 cameras, E410 and E620. 2 of them are a few years old now and still going strong.

I have a e-410 with 4 batteries, all but one were bought off the internet and I have had no problems with them over the last two years.
Do watch out for 1800mAH instead of 1150mAH, as they last longer.
