Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How do I find local weather conditions for walking the Wicklow Way?

    Hi Folks.

I’m hoping to do a stretch of the Wicklow Way next week.
How do I go about finding out the weather conditions for each part?

I would be walking with three good but novice walkers.
I don’t want to end up on the news for wasting rescuers time, or worse?!?

    The plan would be:
    Drive from North Dublin.
Park up somewhere on the Wicklow Way.
Walk for a few hours to a hostel.
Have a few drinks in the evening.
    Wake the next morning.
    Walk back to the car.
    Drive home to Dublin.

Would anyone know how I would go about getting the local forecast?

Also out of the following legs, which would be most suitable for cold weather and novice walkers?

Any info would be much appreciated.

    Thanks Folks.

You could ask in here. There's a few living up and around the WW. Snow is very deep in places up the mountains... 7 foot on the news last night!

wait until the spring - there's a lot of snow and ice up there at the moment, even after it thaws the ground conditions will still be very poor. The mountain rescue service has been very busy the last couple of weeks rescuing idiots who've driven up to have a look, you definitely shouldn't be walking in the hills unless you are experienced and properly equipped.

This thread shows the conditions in around Annamoe this week - this would be nowhere near as high as parts of the WW - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055798036

I was on the first leg yesterday. From the car-parks on the Dublin side up to Two Rock and around there is fine, though your foot can plunge unexpectedly in 8 inches of snow on the west side of Two Rock. Most people there were walking in the vegetation to one side of the trail because the centre had too many surprises.

Where the Wicklow Way passes at its closest point to Tibradden, the snow is still very deep and loose. I went well past my knee a couple of times, and then thought "**** this, I'm heading back."
