Hey I hope so.... This is my first time applying, if I pass the IST I think the AC would worry me the most.. ;)

I don't want to get ahead of myself:p but if it happened i passed the IST and get through to the AC will I have to travel up north or is there an AC in Dublin:confused:

i am aware they have carried out AC in Dublin in the past but in not 100% if they still do, lets get past the IST passed first and then start concentrating on next hurdle.

Hi everyone, I'm applying this year for the first time! Good luck to everyone else applying also!

I have a question which sounds very money-orientated, but it's meant in a practical context. When do you start getting paid?

If Garnerville training lasts for 5 months, I would need to think about putting away enough money to cover rent for that time.

It says we get paid on "commencement of service", but I'm not sure when exactly that is.

    Thanks for your help :)

As soon as you enter the college. You earn from day one.
    Paid monthly.

Campaign 15 was last year, campaign 16 is this year. Campaign 1 was the first ever PSNI recruitment campaign. The numbers increment ever time there is a new campaign. Simples.

Maybe it's a case of getting them going before the gobbernment decide to pull funding for future officers?

Hi all, I've filled out the application form, this is my second attempt at joining, failed the IST by 3 marks last year.

In the application form, there's the section where in no more than 105 words explain why you want to be a Police Officer. Last year, I copied and pasted my answer into Microsoft Word and did a word count to make sure I was on target, but this year I completely forgot to do that.

Can anyone tell me, if I did type more than 105 words would a 'warning' have popped up telling me this when I tried to click submit?

I know it was a daft thing to do, as failing to follow instructions could be enough to have my form ignored. But we all make mistakes unfortunately.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 187 ✭✭grad10

Not sure on the answer to that one Double Oh Seven. Can you roughly remember what you put for your answer? Maybe write it down again now and count the words? But perhaps don't torture yourself with trying to figure it out, maybe just wait to see if you get your date for IST within the 2 weeks. Fingers crossed you didn't go over the word limit and you can add yourself to the list!

hello all I'm new to this site so trying to get used to it. I've applied this year again and i'm hoping to have better luck this time. could you add me to c16 and any advice for the IST

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37 Double Oh Seven

Grad10 - That's what I did. I typed in roughly what I wrote and my word count came up as 70 or so. I'm pretty sure I couldn't have written an extra 35 words I've forgotten so hopefully I'm okay.

Hi sexystaff. With regards to advice for IST see thread: PSNI Recruitment - Stage 1 - The Initial Selection Test. Also practice tests on joinpsni website.

Happy days Double Oh, 105 words is quite alot so im sure your fine. Both added to list. Roll on IST's to get the ball rolling!

thanks grad10. Time to get prepared!!!!! I underestimated how hard the IST would be last year so no mistakes this time around

I really don't know whether to apply again this year or not. I was going to wait to the year has passed since applying last year and go for Strathclyde Police this year as the chances of being successfull are waaaay better...now this campaign coming so early has thrown me! I really do want to apply but then again I know the chances are slim, I failed the IST by 1 mark last year...the most gutting day of my life :( I really don't know what to do

Apart from the practise test that is on the psni website, does anyone recomend anything that would help for the test, like brain training or reading papers etc?

Hey, just wanted to know at the IST lets say if there are 30 questions for example and lets say you answered 15 of them, and lets say you got all 15 right, would you get 100% for getting 15 out of the 15 you answered if they were right or 50% for answering 15 questions and getting all 15 right out of 30 ? Basically what im trying to splurt! out of my mouth is if you dont get time to answer all the questions, should you just throw down any answer just to fill up the sheet or if you get them wrong will it come against your overall mark?

    Thanks Tommy ;):D

Tommy, if the tests are marked out of 70 and you get 35 right then you score 35/70, 50%. They couldnt mark you only on what you answer because people could answer two easy questions and score full marks.

Also, the tests are not marked negatively either so you dont lose marks for wrong answers. If you find (and most do) that you wont get some questions answered you cant lose anything by guessing the rest. If you read through the IST thread you will find loads of advice and tips from what has been written previously.

Back again for 2010 campaign :) was really surprised to see it starting so soon, I wasn't expecting anything until march.
Just filled in application form, and checked requirements - glad to see that (due to my problem I guess) they've edited vetting section - now it clearly states, that an applicant must be a resident of UK or ROI for 3 years prior to applying... If I only knew that last year  You live and you learn
