Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Cheers mate! Are you allowed wear your glasses for the eyesight test?

No your 100% not allowed wear glasses .

Defective Vision (the vision standard required of a Garda Reserve trainee is not less than 6/18, 6/18 correctable to 6/9,6/12, with normal colour vision).

    Hope this helped .

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 445 ✭✭RUNNER 1

Waiting on medical , (hope) to be training 2014 :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 10 reid123

Yeah those are the training dates I'm on. I applied last September... they apparently didn't get my application so I reapplied December last (2012), interview and test in January (2013), meeting with sergeant in April and inspector in June... Medical in November and was put on this intake for January coming... All-in-all its been just over 1 year!

As we are now coming close to the 1300 member quota the intakes will be determined by the numbers that resign from the Reserve

Maybe it is 3, I thought it was 5. With full time guards training starting it will probably change the reserves around a bit.

That means we could be waiting even longer to get trainning im quessing?

Could be. My class was 45 and when graduation came it was two class's of 45 each. There may be a number if he's who are successful in the full time. campaign. Over the past 4 years I have seen approx 5 to 10 reserves resigning for various reasons .the 1300 members strength is based on 10 percent of the regular force which was approved back in 2006.

Well it may be that there is 100 places to fill for next year maybe whoever is still left waiting for training will be in that 100 maybe ,is it not a bit unnecessary to keep having interviews if they dont need the people .

Lots of maybe,s there but it is the public service recruitment we are dealing with here. Try and stay positive . For me it was 18. months from application to walking into the gates of templemore. They will keep interviewing in order to have bodies to send to the Phoenix park for medicals. This pool may be 100 to 300 who knows

I have been waiting for 4 and a half years from my first stage to doing the medical and today I got an email to say I start training next week. Staying power does work and I can understand peoples frustration lets hope training goes well for me and it was well worth the wait :-)
