I was disappointed when she said 'Banks are literally crucifying people'

Would have expected better from Miriam.

How is SF on 11% pathetic?

I know, they should be on at least 20% with their caliber of candidate

I'm not a fan of SF politics but I believe they have a reputation of having hard working politicians in deprived areas of our larger towns and cities. So they are bound to get support.

I wouldn't go that far. Their economic polices will need some serious refining if they are to make significant ground in the coming years.

To tell you the truth the whole lot of them are thin on policy when it comes to economics.

Given they have 5 seats before the Dail broke up, they look set to have at least 10 based on polling figures.

Also the ULA could win up to 5.

Just thought it was a lazy conclusion from Browne at the end there.

Well they have consistently been polling poorly in Dublin where you would expect them to see most gains. Considering the leftists from Labour and the republicans of Fianna Fail in theory seem likely to decamp in favour of SF in this election it is surprising that they are not doing better. However they were up to 16% in another poll a while ago. I don't personally put much stock in opinion polls, people are influenced by all sorts of things, plus its obvious that PR is not accounted for in opinion polls.

I believe SF getting more seats should be part of the 'peace dividend' promised by the good Friday agreemant.

before Mc guiness and Adams are condemned out of hand it is worth remembering where FG and FF's roots lay.
only differance is time has passed since Treaty and civil war

Why not 20%? I have to say that the others fill me with doom. They just want the old club to keep rolling in the same way and none of the others are up to the job. We are lucky Ollie and AJ will be running the show for the foreseeable future

so it's a wee bit misleading talking about negative coverage of Enda Kenny on twitter.

Edit:Here's the link, the percentages seem to be volatile

    http://www.thejournal.ie/poll-who-won-tonight%E2%80%99s-final-leaders%E2%80%99-debate-2011-02/?voted=1

    36%+32%+30%=98%

    Something dosen't add up????

    :)

    :)

That's what the figures said when I posted.

Looking at the figures now, they seem to be rounding the percentages incorrectly (rounding down all part-percentages rather than rounding up when a candidate is on over a half of a percentage)

At the moment the leaders have the following votes

    Martin (1029) 38.2% showing as 38%
    Kenny (835) 31.0% showing as 31%
Gilmore (829) 30.8% showing as 30% - clearly wrong, should be shown as 31%

    chart?chf=bg,s,ffffff00&cht=p&chs=275x211&chd=t:1029,835,829&chds=0,10000&chl=38%%7C31%%7C30%&chdl=Miche%C3%A1l+Martin%20%281029%29%7CEnda+Kenny%20%28835%29%7CEamon+Gilmore%20%28829%29&chdlp=bv&chp=4.7&chco=006AA0

I assume that Vincent's show tonight will have to finish at midnight to comply with the moratorium on election discussion the day before the balloon goes up? Can anyone confirm?

No, the show goes on until 12.30 a.m.

The moratorium doesn't begin until 2 p.m. tomorrow, the rules have changed this year.

    http://www.thejournal.ie/broadcasting-authority-revises-election-moratorium-rules-2011-1/

THE USUAL RULES that require broadcasters not to cover elections on the day before polling is to be amended this year, the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland has confirmed.

The authority today confirmed that it would be allowing broadcasters to cover election-related material until 2pm on the day before polling – expected to be on Friday February 25 – after broadcasters, most notably TV3, complained about the current code.

2pm seems like an arbitrary time to stop the discussion, but that's the rule, apparently.
