They seem to be talking a lot of sense to me. Perhaps you should listen.

    no they're not

i am listening and that's why i have already observed a hell of a lot of mistruths and lies and contradictions and incoherent arguments from them but heh as long as they go along with your political agenda we'll put that to one side

it's obviously propoganda night for the untouchable women's lib types

Well that important talking point seems to have evaporated just there.

This is awful stuff... Taking the case of Michael Cleary... which happened YEARS ago, I too remember she responded to Gay with "I'm not that bad a person myself".. Gay was just saying that he was a decent man, but Annie Murphy took this to mean that she wasnt.. Gay never said that she wasnt, and was pleasant to her all through the interview.. She was just looking to be offended..

And in the case of Rosemary Nelson, the RUC used what phrases they could to discredit her in the same way they did for Pat Finucane.. She was murdered because she was solicitor for suspected IRA murderers, not because she was a woman ffs...

I remember a member of The Rape Crisis centre was on Joe Duffy talking about that Cork DJ masterbating on the plane. Sometimes they really let themselves down.

Gaybo was quite hostile and unfriendly with Annie Murphy. His closing comments were disgraceful and attempted to undermine all of what she had just said. It was completely unprofessional and deeply rude.

The panel were making the point that what Gaybo said highlighted the societal attitude towards men and women in these sex cases - the woman always comes off worse. And they are spot on.

They did not suggest that Rosemary Nelson was killed because she was a woman.

How can that possibly be a bad thing?

50 men shook hands with danny foley - wrong, it was 50 people

women earn 70% of what men earn - mistruth, for people doing the same job and same hours there is no difference

rosemary nelson death, ruc officers leaked details of her possibly sleeping around, tried to slander her - first i've heard of that, was it mentioned in the inquiry? not that i could see, and how dare they use that women's death for their own cheap political points, her death was nothing to do with her gender, it was because she was a very brave lawyer who defended republicans like pat finucane

trying to make out that gay byrnes comment to annie murphy 20 years again the late late show was indicative of some widely held cultural view (byrne was friends with the bish, it was an off the cuff comment at the end of a respectful interview signifying sfa)

suggesting there is some kind of wider cultural acceptance of rape because a few inbred locals shook hands with danny foley

that's all in the 15 minutes i watched and i am sure i have forgotten loads

    as i said propoganda night

They did not suggest that Rosemary Nelson was killed because she was a woman.

They why mention her... ? If she had been a man, the RUC would have spoken of her in similarly derogatory terms.... And mentioning that rape case down in Kerry (I think) as if it was the norm.... That was a one in a million case..

Vincent gave them a really easy ride tonight.. Isnt him not going hard on the female panel a form of discrimination in itself.. ?

You said that they said she was killed because she was a woman, they did not suggest that.

The Kerry case is worth repeating and repeating and you should only condemn what happened down there.

They talked a huge amount of sense about rape in Ireland and the wider attitudes of men towards women.

Can't be bothered responding to each point - It seems like you have a hostile prejudice of women and I don't think you're aware of it.

well personally I have a problem with women like these effectively labelling all men as misogynists/oppressors/rapists/supporters of rapists/discriminators.. These women seem to have a huge chip on their shoulders, especially that Mother Superior type from the Rape Crisis Centre..

ah the old smearing tactic, nice but predictable

the only hostile prejudices I have are against stupidity and bigotry, it's all the more offensive when it's dressed up as something else

some of what they said was reasonable and necessary, a lot of it was tripe, nonsense and lies

i won't lower myself to your level and make kneejerk amateur comments about the integrity of your views on gender politics but i think it speaks volumes when one chooses to smear and target the person rather than have the debate

All men??? When did they say that??? Who's guilty of labelling.

They are passionate and well meaning - they do not have chips on their shoulders.

Why would someone mock the Rape Crisis Network - that's pretty low.

I'm not trying to smear you, I don't know who you are.

I'm just suggesting that you probably have a prejudice of women, based on your quite hostile posts tonight. Particularly when they're talking about rape, a crime that almost always is committed by men.

this is precisely the problem, if anyone dares to question what these women are saying they are immediately labelled, so if I question the validity of some of the stuff that they say, it means according to you that I have a prejudice against women (there is no causal link there and you shouldn't do that) - that is a very unhealthy and insidious tactic aimed at stifling debate and is a classic propoganda strategy

I still can't understand why in this day and age, men who use prostitutes pretty much get off Scot-free while the women themselves are prosecuted. I know this is an old law on the statute books but surely it wouldn't take much to amend this law? Especially when a lot of vulnerable women are now being trafficked and exploited for this sort of thing.

It shouldn't be. The law should be amended to prosecute the men that use the women.

If the Rape Crisis Centre representative has a "chip on her shoulder" as you put it maybe she has a right to, the Kerry case was not an isolated case, victims have been repeatedly let down.

Do you remember the case in Clare? where a woman's house was broken into and she was raped in her bed while her young children were sleeping in the next room. In that case the man was given a suspended sentence and was allowed travel back to Clare on the same train as his victim - Some justice.

In the end the victim was forced to go public so that the DPP would order an appeal.

There is also the matter of 25 rape cases in the North West that may not proceed because forensic evidence gathered by a HSE staff member could be thrown out of court because the medical worker was not registered for a period of time with An Bord Altranais (the Nursing Board) due to non-payment of fees.

Jaysus Mick Wallace look very tired, emotional, upset... fair play to him for coming on and facing down the inevitable questions about his finances..

His hair and pink shirt with the background in the studio is playing havoc with my tv screen!

He is a gas character, and it is ridiculous that if he was convicted of mass murder (or taking bribes) he would not lose his seat but because he goes bankrupt he does.

Bit insensitive of Vinny to focus in on Mick's wrinkles given the pressure that the man must be under..
