For any out there, like myself, who may be a bit metrologically challenged, or whose knowledge of models is Kate Moss and Claudia Schiffer, or anyone else for that matter, this is your opportunity to get in on the foreceasting act with a bit of karaoke weather forecasting.

The Irish weather is essentially Mother Nature having a good oul hooley, with a bit of headbanging, a few slow airs and the odd whirling dervish thrown in, so it makes sense to sing what we think she will do next.

The ‘Movement for Musical Weather Forecasts’ (MMWF) is in its early stages of evolution, but hopefully more traditional forms of forecasting will pick up on it and in the not too distant future we’ll see John Eagleton bursting onto our TV screens with an air guitar in hand doing his version of Thunder Strikes by ACDC… Jean Byrne doing ‘It’s getting hot in here…so lets take off all our clothes’ and Gerry Murphy singing Ring of Fire (when Ireland is experiencing a bbq summer).

So if you’d like to partake in a bit of Jack Frost nipping at your nose, the weather outside is frightful or it’s raining in your heart feel free to join in… and remember everywhere you go always take the weather with you. ;)

As for my current forecast for the next 24 hours ( The Eurythmics):

:pac:.... Here comes the rain again…lalala… falling on my head like a memory…falling on my head like a new emotion…lalala… I want to walk in the open wind…I want to drive into the ocean… is it raining with you?… lalalalala

My look ahead to next week's weather

    Lighthouse Family - High

    "Though it's darker than December
What's ahead is a different colour
One day we're gonna get so high"

The Creatures "Exterminating Angel" sums up the Irish weather for me:

    "There are just black holes where the stars should have been;
There are just black holes where the stars would be watching".

    I had watched the snow
all day. Falling. It never lets up. All day
falling. I lifted my voice and wept out loud,
    "So this is life?".

This song always reminds me of a typical summer's day in Galway:

Just makes me long for summer again, with those warm, sweet, dry winds flowing through my recently Pantene'd hair*. :)

    *because I'm worth it...

Okay then, here we go. You click on this video and listen in, but you read my alternate lyrics in this post ...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZD5hz8EnyaE

    M.T. Cranium
    used up his uranium
    in a time machine;

    late nights all alone
    with the GFS
    lost their charm.

    He got in and then
    taking some advice from Ken,
    set the dial for March,

    thought it might be arch
    to return with
    forecasts so fine ...

But as he's getting ready to go,
A dial has been turned back ...

Bang bang, MT's out of the capsule
    and now he looks round,
Sieg heil, uh oh, that is not the
    most ideal sound.

    (music ...)

    Spies a calendar
    advertising lavender
    and a date quite odd,
seems his earthly bod is now back in
    nineteen thirty eight.

    Great says MTC,
now I can prevent the war,
    Be a help to Jews,
and to people who don't choose to goose step around.

How to do this now is the question,
    Look there's Eva Braun,

    Bang bang MTC went over,
    and chatted her up,
told her that her pups were really nice
    but not her boyfriend.

    (music)

    Nineteen forty-one,
    Eva didn't follow through,
    Hitler-Stalin pact,
turned out to be tactless nonsense,
    MT had warned
    Adolf not to trust
forecasts that would make him thrust
    armies to the east,
cause the Russian beast would awaken
    before old St Nick.

but as the words were leaving his lips,
    Churchill called him back.

Bang bang MTC flew out with his pal
    Rudolf Hess,
    Made a splash in forty-seven,
    it wasn't a guess ...

    (music)

    Further outlook,
    MT's his own dad.

Mon ami, I do not see your links. Perhaps it's just my browser?

    Meanwhile,

"You were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar,
    In Wicklow town,
I phoned you up and told you that a foot of snow
    would soon fall down...

You brushed it off and said no cold air
    ever came there,
    since '82.
But now it's snowing real hard and nobody knows
    where to find you ...

Don't you want my cold front?
Don't you want my easterly wind?

    here's one

    And a real weather one

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,610 ✭✭✭Pa ElGrande

I got up this morning and pulled the curtains back.

and then made my way to work

Spring was never waiting for us, girl,
It ran one step ahead as we followed in the dance.
Between the parted pages and were pressed
in love' hot, fevered iron like a striped pair of pants.
MacArthurs park is melting in the dark
All the sweet green icing flowing down

after an uneventful day I emerged into the evening and made my way home

On the edge of a heading for heavy weather
I suspect I can tell I can feel it in my bones
All not well but you never, never, never will know
(Cold and it's dark) I'm feelin' cold (Cold
and it's dark) I'm feelin' cold
(Cold and it's dark) I feel the chill is all around me baby
(Cold and it's dark) It's like a space in my heart
(Cold and it's dark) It's cold and it's dark and yesterday
