Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

African Nations Cup Fixed?

In the opening game of the tournament Angola were 4 nil up with 12 mins left and mali came back and drew 4 all, this is highly unusual and almost never happens in football, especially with only ten minutes left.

the second day, the favourites Ivory Coast could only draw with a team 33 places below them in the fifa rankings, Burkina Faso, a team with no real hope of winning or progressing far in the competition.

The second day Malawi beat Algeria 3 nil, algeria also being one of the favourites to win the competition.

finally, yesterday, the second favourites for the tournament Cameroon, lost to Gabon, a team ranked 48th in the fifa rankings.

In the case of the above results, a lot of money would have been wagered on these games, and while a lot of people definitely lost out, somebody somewhere had to have made a tidy sum.

To add to the mystery surrounding these strange results is that The African Federation was adamant that the tournament go ahead, in spite of the terrorist attack on the Togo team bus that killed three......

    ;)

It was predicted before the tournament that the players from big teams who have qualified for the World Cup this summer, including Algeria, Cameroon and Ivory Coast, would not be all that bothered about the African Nations cup.

No conspiracy, the players just realise that playing a full season with their clubs, including european club matches for many, and two international tournaments is just too much and are saving themselves for the big show. Understandably.

Get your money on Egypt or Mali :)

I give you the 2005 Champions League final. Liverpool came back from being 3 goals behind to level the score with 3 goals in 6 minutes and ended up winning the game on penalties.

    Anything can happen in football.

As they say football is a funny old game. These things happen in sport and what makes it exciting....if sport was predictable it would be pretty boring.
