    Hi all,
I have a Netopia 2247-02 router. I just installed the latest firmware (7.0.0 R6) and spotted something new in the logs (it reads from the bottom up)

00:00:01:30 HTTPC: No context found for closed socket 0
    00:00:01:30 SSL: Closing Connection: nbbs.eircom.ie
    00:00:01:30 TR-069: Closing connection on HTTP 204
    00:00:01:29 TR-069: Post Inform - reason 6 CONNECTION REQUEST
00:00:01:29 SSL: Certificate Verify Success: nbbs.eircom.ie
    00:00:01:29 SSL: Connect Success: nbbs.eircom.ie
    00:00:01:29 SSL: Handshake Success
    00:00:01:28 TR-069: Connect to 86.43.34.198 Retry 0
00:00:01:13 HTTPC: No context found for closed socket 0
    00:00:01:13 SSL: Closing Connection: nbbs.eircom.ie
    00:00:01:13 TR-069: Closing connection on HTTP 204
00:00:01:12 TR-069: Server auth challenge received
    00:00:01:12 TR-069: Post Inform - reason 1 BOOT
00:00:01:12 SSL: Certificate Verify Success: nbbs.eircom.ie
    00:00:01:12 SSL: Connect Success: nbbs.eircom.ie
    00:00:01:12 SSL: Handshake Success

What is nbbs.eircom.net? Any idea why the router is connecting to it? I can't ping nbbs.eircom.net(ISP is Digiweb, not eircom), but the router seems to connect to it.

    Any ideas?

    Esskay

Unfortunately not, I have no problems with my internet access, it's just since I upgraded the router firmware, the router now seems to contact eircom when it boots up and I am curious to know why.

    It is a TR-069 connection .

nbbs.eircom.ie is a TR-069 ACS or Auto-Configuration Server , the router could pick up a 'management' profile from the ACS or new firmware ,

It could send Netopia configuration information and basic LAN topology ( in your premises) back to the ACS for diagnostic purposes if requested by the ACS.

are you sure 7.0.0r6 is latest firmware? I have version: 7.8.0r2 from eircom's support website...

BTW I second Sponge Bobs comment about nbbs - I read here before that it isn't even active...

eircom can use a TR-069 diagnostic to scan your LAN which makes this recent story rather plausible if they have a functioning TR-069 standard ACS.

I recommend you read this document , to save you time start with Appendix B on Page 51

    http://www.broadband-forum.org/technical/download/TR-069.pdf

You may disable TR-069 functionality with a telnet command.

IIRC the simple solution is telnet 192.168.1.254 , type clear_certificate and the SSL will not work because the prestored certificate to bring up the SSL layer to the ACS is no longer there.

Alternatively ( techie bit) you can telnet 192.168.1.254 and turn off the TR-069 function.

    A typical config reads as

    "set dslf-cpewan option on
    set dslf-cpewan acs-url "https://nbbs.eircom.ie:443/nbbs/tr69"
    set dslf-cpewan acs-user-name "something unique"
    set dslf-cpewan acs-user-password "something unique"
    set dslf-lanmgmt option off
    set dynamic-dns option off"

so < ret> means hit carriage return or enter

    To Turn Off.

telnet 192.168.1.254 <ret> you see netopia command line
    configure <ret>
    set dslf-cpewan<ret>
    off <ret>

To Change the prestored url you must turn TR-069 on and you get prompted for it, what you type is to the right of the colon. This solution would be , shall we say, interesting :D

telnet 192.168.1.254 <ret> you see netopia command line
    configure <ret>
    set dslf-cpewan<ret>
    option (off) [ off | on ]: on <ret>
    acs-url ("https://nbbs.eircom.ie:443/nbbs/tr69"): http://nbbs.eircom.ie:80 <ret>
    acs-user-name ("07899x00986758"): yore <ret>
    acs-user-password ("jljljluuiuojljjljlkjljkjljl"): ma <ret>
    wan-kick-port (7547) [ 1024 - 65535 ]: 9999 <ret>

then to escape out of the telnet menu type exit <ret>

accept save new configuration option when offered

I got the version number incorrect, it's 7.7.0 R6. Also, the sticker on the bottom of the router says it's a 2247NWG-EIR but on the web interface it says it's a 2247-02. I downloaded both firmwares and the only one that would work is the 2247-02. So, I presume it's a 2247-02 and I have the lastest firmware for that model installed.

There is a newer firmware from eircom's site, however there are problems with their site at the moment, otherwise I'd just give you th elink to it...

Here's a screenshot of my 2247-02 (has the same model number printed underneath as yours...)
