Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

roi car in uk

I have imported my car from Ireland to UK.

The process of registering the car in the UK has proved very tedious!
I almost finished the whole process today and was heading off to print my number plate and get my resident parking permit when what did I find?

YES a sneaky little £60 fine in my wipers! So I have now put my new UK plates on and have my parking permit on. The question now is do I pay the fine for the then Irish car - is it traceable to me or my prev address in ROI?

    Any suggestions and advice appreciated.

    Thanks

I'd imagine it would be tracable through the DVLA. Chassis number and so on.

it dosent mention anything about my chasis number on the ticket.
can they ask dvla for that on irish reg car?

just the reg no - which was the ROI reg....

ya, but the irish reg will be on they're system, which will now be linked to the UK reg

The reason it is tedious and long winded is to protect their own motor industry and the business
that employ and pay taxes in the UK ! unlike here ! we dont even have a vehicle certification agency and you can import/ dump any piece of crap in here once you pay the VRT !
If your lucky and go to the right VRO office all you will be met with is a young girl with a pen and
to write down your VIn and give your your new reg Number and Vrt bill !

I'll doubt you'll ever see that ticket. Bigger fish to fry and all that.

If it was really the just a case of linking up previous registration numbers, I'd be snowed under. ;)

    2 Options ;

If you got a ticket, you cleary were parked illegally.
Just pay the fine and move on.

    or

Don't pay the fine, and see what happens, which more than likey will be feck all. Like how are they going to enforce their law to Ireland?

In England, dont local authorities pass unpaid fines to bailiffs, the fine escalates to a huge sum and if they find out the OP is resident in the UK they will track them down?

....reallly?...where did OP didn't say the ticket was for parking ? Could have been for tax.

OP - Would the parking permit have covered you if you'd had the UK plates on? If so, it might be worth while explaining the situation to whoever issued the ticket.

Too much hassle - pay the ticket you did something wrong to get it!

UK cannot trace ROI numbers... only just last year they were able to trace NI numbers!

    Ignore it.

(Like I did ROI tickets with my UK car).

But the OP has just given the DVLA the ROI registration of the car, along with all their UK details.

But all they do is send the logbook back to ireland to cancel it... the details are "lost".

I'm almost 100% that all previous VRMs (ie reg nos) are recorded.

I reckon in this case you would be safe enough in not paying the fine. The chances of them chasing you down for £60 is remote and requires far more co-operation between agencies than is normal. Traffic Wardens love ticketing foreign cars as its a return of work for them without any pain to anyone. Its expected that the fine won't be paid!
