Cheque question

Hi guys, Will a cheque bounce if its not made out to the right person? Had a few cheques I hadn't cashed and one of them has the wrong name on it. The cheque is not crossed and the guy in the bank said to write my name on the back and hope for the best. :)

It's pot luck really. If the name is similar to yours, the clerk will probably just process it. If it's completely different, you might get lucky and get a clerk who couldn't be bothered, but it might also bounce.
