anyone else confused at how people don't remember this from tv? I'm in my mid-20s, only had Bog1 and Bog2 for most of my childhood, yet I definitely remember it being shown throughout the 90s. I thought the tv series was one of those things that everyone had heard of, even if they had never watched it. I've heard it referenced in various tv/pop culture things down through the years several times too....Have read a few reviews now talking about how the TV series was pretty much unheard of....

I'm 29 and never heard of it, still knew nothing of it when going to see this movie.

I am currently rewatching the TV show. It is soooo dated! The pilot episode is about a kid who is stealing crap to sell to make money to pay off a thug, he gets grounded by his parents and runs up stairs shouting about how he wont be able to go see the "Eurythmics" concert. This is brought up several times throughout the show as if showing us how hip and cool the show it... not so effective 20 years later! :D

    Still though... Depp gold!

Heard of the show from the Depp connection, but I've never seen it, Didn't even know it was being shown here in the 90s. Was gonna give the film a miss - Don't see the big deal about Channing Tatum AT ALL and there's something about Jonah Hill I've always found...unsettling. Like dead mother in the attic unsettling. Now though everyone i know whose seen it said its hilarious I may have to check it out. Haven't even seen a trailer for it yet.

I wasn't a huge fan of the original show, but I remember it well enough to have recognised Holly Robinson (the female cop that issues Hill and Tatum their flash car - can't remember the make/model). She played one of the main characters in the original series (maybe the same character even?). Of course, my memory is helped by the fact that she was fiiine.

Saw this last night, and was surprised by how funny and down right smart it was. Some great satirical humour in it and loved how the extreme violence came out of nowhere.

THe biggest laugh for me was when they were being assigned to the operation and the chief goes
"I hate it when they keep recycling the same crap and expect everyone to keep seeing it!"

Again I'm with most people here and thought it was going to be dire but was pleasantly surprised. Not a fan of Tatum at all as I think he's dire but he seems to have found his film style. Some quite clever jokes and everyone loves a bit of slapstick.
My favourite bit was the chief aswell but the line:
"Tomorrow you report to.........37 Jump Street. No wait, that doesn't sound right".

Nick Offerman aka the Chief could have been used more that would be the only negative from me

I'm not trying to be different for the sake of it here but I was actually quite disappointed.

This sort of film is usually my cup of tea and I was in the mood for something light and silly, but I don't think I laughed at all.

To be honest, it just kept occurring to me how much better the film could have been if the writers had been HALF as clever as they tried to be.
Knowing self-deprecation is great when it's done well, but in my opinion almost every attempt at the whole post-modern, ironic wink to the audience fell pretty flat.

There's only one bit I can remember smiling at (broadly, in fairness, as I was a fan of the show as a kid.....Simpsons at half six and 21 Jump street at seven, every Sunday for years!) and those of you who saw it can guess what that was.

A classic comedy, Ice Cube puts in a sterling performance and has the funniest lines. Jonah Hill has considerable comedic talent to put something of this calibre out, so many funny moments. I hope this film is a success so we can have the sequel promised at the end of the film.

Thought it was fairly rubbish myself. Seemed like a load of "adults pretending to be kids" sketches without much continuity between them.

I watched this the other night and felt it was a frustrating experience. On one hand, it genuinely is a funny, ironic genre deconstruction. I found myself laughing a surprising amount during the opening hour or so, especially around the point when they enter the school. It's playful, and shows a willingness to challenge stereotypes and clichés (teen movies, cop movies etc...).

Then it completely embraces the stereotypes and clichés.

A real film of two halves. After a genuinely entertaining first half, it just sort of falls back on what it had previously lovingly mocked. There's a few scattered laughs - the highway chase and the third act cameos - but it just lacked the comic consistency of what came before. It was maddening, because the cast generally did a good job and the filmmakers were clearly trying to craft something ironic yet affectionate. At least for a while, they succeed, but 21 Jump Street just kind of stumbles to the finish line after a good start.
