Garmin Announces BirdsEye Satellite Imagery Subscription

Garmin are about to launch a subscription service where you can download satellite imagery onto Oregon/Colorado/Dakota devices.

Will be interesting to see how good the imagery will be for Ireland.

The press release is up, looks like imagery will be supplied by DigitalGlobe. How good is their coverage of Ireland?

It depends .. the very best commercial satellite imagery now is down to sub meter resolutions (about 0.5m), but I don't know whether this will be available. Good quality aerial imagery (from planes) can get down to 10cm in urban areas and 25cm in rural areas. If you look at Google Earth or Maps, the imagery for Ireland is a mish-mash of different resolutions and qualities from different suppliers such as DigitalGlobe, Terrametrics and BlueSky The best quality stuff, such as the coverage of central Dublin, seems to be from Infoterra/BlueSky.
