Process of becoming a doctor.

    Hi,
    just wondering what is the process of becoming a doctor.

    you do your 4/5/6/7 years in college.

    after that then what?

    if you want to become a gp how long?

    if you want to become a heart surgeon how long?

    if you wan to become a plastic surgeon how long?

    you need to do an intern year when you graduate, and then apply for GP scheme or other SHO positions(surgery) if you want to stay in ireland, and also in ireland SHOs dont conduct a surgery they only assist the consultant who is doing the surgery and becoming a consultant takes 10-20 years on average after graduating, also plastic surgery is a rare speciality in ireland, not many jobs around.
