That's more likely an issue in your house, or your distance from the exchange. There's tonnes of threads on this. You'll need to post your S/N margin and the like to get any proper help.
    S/N margin?

iv had eircom bb for over 5 years , im in roscommon , but the past week or so its started doing this , and when i go to the router settings it show

    dsl: down broadband :disconected

could it be the router on its last legs ? its about 1-2 yyears old,

also i upgraded to the 7mb package from them if thats any help

    44%!?

oh dear. i get about 30% on galways b-ras3. its horrible. the games lag horribly. Usually when i get less than 25% packet loss, the lag seems to smooth out a bit better though :(

not usually that bad. usually eircoms interleaving would reduce the packet loss significantly

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 8,766 Mod ✭✭✭✭mossym

I'm still having 0% packet loss on bras1 , solid as a rock

wts this bras1 ?? is it the DNS server ??
    dns1.cra.dublin.eircom.net
mine have always been on the above server and its always solid as a rock :D:D

The B-ras is basically the server that decides if you can use the Eircom network or not kinda like a gateway, it acts as a router and provides other functions aswell. Thats a very simplified answer. Do a search on DLSAM BRAS RADIUS, if you want to learn more.

Eircom 3MB package - tracert results...speedtest results are simply laughable. They're sending a technician out and told me I may be better off with dial-up!!! 4-5km from Skibbereen exchange in west Cork!

May have to try digiweb or rapidbroadband for wireless option. Eircom broadband now unusable from 12PM!! 3 new routers and adsl splitters.

    Tracing route to boards.ie [89.234.66.107]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

Well I've only become an eircom customer at the end of April. I signed up for the 3mb package (had to get the phone line installed etc, it came free with the 'broadband' bundle) and here are my speeds:

I've been having problems streaming lately, speed seems normal and ping is about 30ms to boards. Any ideas why its so slow???

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be smart. Someone had posted they gad problems with bras1 and I had said I would try for them. My post was the results, not bragging I had no problems

I was wrong, seems to be back to form again:

    picture.php?albumid=1207&pictureid=6265

Shows packet loss calculated over 10 pings, tested every 5 minutes. Complete outage shown last night.

What tool is that graph generated from?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 25,234 ✭✭✭✭Sponge Bob

On a properly configured backhaul from an average quality 3mbit eircom line on a rural exchange you should get a ping back from boards.ie in between 18ms and 21ms, let's say 20ms from the west coast and with 0% lost.

In Galway City where the BRAS is it takes around 18ms average on a normal 3mbit line.

This is based on sustained qos measuring data by the way ( sorry boards :D)

If you have heavy interleaving or crap backhaul it will take longer. If your line stats are good then it must be the wheezy backhaul.

just wondering how do i check what bras i am on ?? thanks :D:D

To check what Bras yer on, go :

    Start>>Run>>'cmd' *return*

    in the black box type
    tracert www.eircom.net *return*

This will return a trace of what IPs your traffic runs through to get to the eircom web server.

The packet loss graph is generated on mrtg server using an mrtg-ping-probe command in the config

I have it running on an Ubuntu server at home. You can get it to run on a Windoze box, Ive no idea about how to do that though thankfully.

have a 4mb account with eircom, which they confirmed on the phone after i rang up complaining that our broadband has gone down to 1mb.

not sure they really knew what is going on. they first told me it's to do with interference from skytv and such? erm, mate, a lot of households have eircom with skytv in the same house... and i've had both eircom and sky in the same house for over 8 years or so with no problem.

guy put the broadband speed down to 3mb for testing and put me on hold for a good few minutes to get a "report" back. still nothing, but me thinks he's talking crap.

end of call i got the good old "we'll send an engineer out, 2/3 working days". last time a problem occured with eircom (broadband stopped working completely in area, which is a central dublin area) it took them about 4 weeks to come out to fix it :/

think we're going to be changing broadband and phone providers soon... what's the best one out there? and is there any broadband comparison website?

p.s. a good idea for eircom would be to install a "live chat" function on their website. costs a fooking fortune, was on for 35 minutes or so today!!

Had problems with eircom, went to UPC, still not perfect, but its close, and its relatively cheap

Half past fúckin eleven and my net is still crap...
tomorrow morning ringing up eircom again..demanding a refund for the last 6 months I've been having with their crap product and getting nowhere with it..
really sick to the teeth now of it..

Now that Rippcom have taken over Ice I have the wireless broadband back, and it has no issues whatsoever. I did brick my WRT54G router, so had to buy a new one, but other than that, I'm cancelling my eircom 'broadband' service asap. I only had it 1 month, which included installation of phone line and 1 month free broadband.

I could only get 30k on the connection, it was a joke.

send thema formal written complaint first to cover your ass.

eircom.ie > customer services > log a complaint . wait for answer usually 2 days with complaint reference number.
