    Does anyone know if the radar is just down (has been since Friday) or is it being renewed/maintained ?

    It is just a simple disgrace, I feel sorry for the people who live in areas with no radar coverage, very bad for people who work outdoors.

    Said before that the MET service in this country is a disgrace .... I'm only getting confirmed time and time again

    This is the crowd who got the contract. Seem a decent outfit worldwide, let's hope they can put an end to the shambles. Though the Met Eireann tender described this as extending the radar's life by only 10 years. So in 10 years will we be back here in the same position again I wonder? :rolleyes:

    EDIT: In the meatime, here's a crude estimation of rainfall rates combined with IR satellite imagery and airport METARs. Not very accurate some of the time, but then again it is better than nothing!

    Shannon radar is a disgrace, you would have thought METE would put pressure on these contactors to pull their finger out. At least the Dublin radar is working, so that will keep rte happy.

    Being a Westie & working outdoors the annoying thing is that we have just had a long period where our weather was coming for the North & East. This would of been a good time to fix the radar.

    Like I said before it is of limited use when working.

    Put proper radar on the west coast , put one in Dooncarton in Mayo and another in Mt Gabriel in Cork and then we don't care if Shannon goes down because we have redundancy.

    The only useful Met service in the west IS a working high resolution radar.

    Most Met Eireann forecasts are cack and the Shannon radar even when working is TOO LOW to provide accurate data in Cork/South Kerry Mayo and Donegal anyway. :(

    When radars are working normally they will produce their product about 3 mins after the end of the scan. There can be a delay due to circulation times but you should expect to be seeing a scan 5 -10 min after its generation. This is about as fast as you can expect.

    But thats the point, its not even scanning/working. We cant see whats coming off the atlantic. Least the Dublin Radar is still working so Dublin can see whats coming towards them......Panic over!!!!

    No wonder the air traffic controllers are on strike, they are guiding in planes with binoculars:pac:

    Didn't think it was worth starting a new thread;

The scope of the tender will bea) replace the existing analogue receiver and pre-processor in the Ericsson Radar system with a digital receiver and signal processorb) optional upgrading of transmitter components , particularly the modulator,c) support the upgraded components of the radar system for at least 10 years andd) as an option , support the entire radar system.The tender process will be initiated by the publishing of an ITT notice in the Official Journal of the EU, in Q2 2010.

    That about sums this poxy radar up. Off again today when we need it to see the rain coming. Thought it was supposed to be mended by the end of Jan?

    Everything in this country is falling apart.
