    Poetry, eh?
    Algorhyme

I think that I shall never see
a graph more lovely than a tree.
            A tree whose crucial property
            is loop-free connectivity.
A tree that must be sure to span
so packet can reach every LAN.
First, the root must be selected.
            By ID, it is elected.
Least-cost paths from root are traced.
In the tree, these paths are placed.
A mesh is made by folks like me,
then bridges find a spanning tree.

                             Radia Perlman

The lyrics that this man writes are absolutely amazing! His entire album Alice is also beautiful. Everything he does is genius

P.S. I don't think the lyrics in the above song are "amazing" :p, it's just a nice song.

    Here's more... :p

    I fell into the ocean
    When you became my wife
I risked it all aganist the sea
    To have a better life
Marie you're the wild blue sky
    And men do foolish things
    You turn kings into beggars
    And beggars into kings

Pretend that you owe me nothing
And all the world is green
We can bring back the old days again
And all the world is green

    The face forgives the mirror
    The worm forgives the plow
    The questions begs the answer
    Can you forgive me somehow
    Maybe when our story's over
We'll go where it's always spring
The band is playing our song again
And all the world is green

Pretend that you owe me nothing
And all the world is green
We can bring back the old days again
And all the world is green

    The moon is yellow silver
Oh the things that summer brings
    It's a love you'd kill for
And all the world is green

    He is balancing a diamond
    On a blade of grass
The dew will settle on our grave(s)
When all the world is green

Nick Cave & The Bads - Into My Arms. Even got a mention in my college poetry book. :)

I don't believe in an interventionist God
But I know, darling, that you do
But if I did I would kneel down and ask Him
Not to intervene when it came to you
Not to touch a hair on your head
To leave you as you are
And if He felt He had to direct you
Then direct you into my arms

    Into my arms, O Lord
    Into my arms, O Lord
    Into my arms, O Lord
    Into my arms

And I don't believe in the existence of angels
But looking at you I wonder if that's true
But if I did I would summon them together
And ask them to watch over you
To each burn a candle for you
To make bright and clear your path
And to walk, like Christ, in grace and love
And guide you into my arms

    Into my arms, O Lord..

    But I believe in Love
And I know that you do too
And I believe in some kind of path
That we can walk down, me and you
    So keep your candles burning
And make her journey bright and pure
    That she will keep returning
    Always and evermore

I've said it many times, but Alice is definitely one of the greatest albums ever made. The title track is at home in this thread.

    It's dreamy weather we're on
    You waved your crooked wand
Along an icy pond with a frozen moon
A murder of silhouette crows I saw
And the tears on my face
And the skates on the pond
    They spell Alice

    I disappear in your name
But you must wait for me
    Somewhere across the sea
    There's a wreck of a ship
Your hair is like meadow grass on the tide
And the raindrops on my window
And the ice in my drink
Baby all I can think of is Alice

    Arithmetic arithmetock
Turn the hands back on the clock
How does the ocean rock the boat?
How did the razor find my throat?
The only strings that hold me here
Are tangled up around the pier

    And so a secret kiss
    Brings madness with the bliss
And I will think of this
When I'm dead in my grave
Set me adrift and I'm lost over there
    And I must be insane
To go skating on your name
    And by tracing it twice
    I fell through the ice
    Of Alice

    And so a secret kiss
    Brings madness with the bliss
And I will think of this
When I'm dead in my grave
Set me adrift and I'm lost over there
    And I must be insane
To go skating on your name
    And by tracing it twice
    I fell through the ice
    Of Alice
    There's only Alice

    For some reason I really like this poem;
    the lesson of the moth

i was talking to a moth
    the other evening
he was trying to break into
    an electric light bulb
and fry himself on the wires why do you fellows
pull this stunt i asked him
    because it is the conventional
    thing for moths or why
if that had been an uncovered
    candle instead of an electric
    light bulb you would
now be a small unsightly cinder
    have you no sense
    plenty of it he answered
but at times we get tired
    of using it
we get bored with the routine
    and crave beauty
    and excitement
    fire is beautiful
and we know that if we get
too close it will kill us
    but what does that matter
it is better to be happy
    for a moment
and be burned up with beauty
than to live a long time
and be bored all the while
so we wad all our life up
    into one little roll
and then we shoot the roll
that is what life is for
it is better to be a part of beauty
for one instant and then cease to
    exist than to exist forever
and never be a part of beauty
    our attitude toward life
    is come easy go easy
    we are like human beings
used to be before they became
    too civilized to enjoy themselves
and before i could argue him
    out of his philosophy
    he went and immolated himself
    on a patent cigar lighter
i do not agree with him
    myself i would rather have
    half the happiness and twice
    the longevity
but at the same time i wish
    there was something i wanted
as badly as he wanted to fry himself

Hahahahah not exactly Shakespeare but I like it.
IVE HAD MY FUN AND THATS ALL THAT MATTERS!
Oh and Fr Ted is a beautiful thing, a programme bestowed to us by deities!

I've no idea why, but the song by itself was beautiful, but the remix is just... perfect. I love it. I can't actually describe it. It's amazing.
Here's a different version, with the amazing voice of Ellie Goulding:

I once listened to that song (the first version I posted) on the laptop when looking out at the beautiful weather we got a while back: my garden in the brilliant sun just looked so beautiful. There's so much in nature: so simple yet so powerful.
A few nights afterwards, (night before the solstice actually), I went up Nowen Hill to catch a late sunset. Mist was been blown up the hill so there was a strange orange glow from the setting sun, and the unusual conditions just gave an amazing backdrop to the mountains surrounding it.
There's just so much beauty right outside the door sometimes.

    Own your own pain.
    Why not? It's yours.

You've hawked it, pushed it, pimped it -
    now,
Your body, breathing, life, guts, luster,
    sweetness, softness,
    Pays the price.

So own your own pain. Why not?

    You've eaten it for breakfast,
Sung it to sleep at night,
Rinsed it out in the basin,
Watched it rise with the bread.

    So-take it, turn it,
    Let it slither,
    Into blood-beat, breast-bone, cell-song,
    skin.

    Give it a name.
    What you possess
    Cannot possess you.

    1. Music.
Especially Dream Theatre I find their music so beautiful.

    2. Photos.
I love photos I take my camera everywhere I go. The feelings and memories that come from pictures can be incredible.

    3. Purple.
My favourite colour. Purple makes things better!

    4. Starry nights.
There's nothing more beautiful than laying under the stars on a warm nght. Stars are my favourite shape.

    5. Poetry
I love reading and writing it it can be so beautiful to me.

I have loads more just can't think!

"We've woven hearts a thorn arbour
Left tear streaked reason upon the shore
And bereft of compass, star or more
Set out for this World's end
Few at the prow, most slave below
    Painting coal a perfect gold
But for all it's worth, the engines slow
    Dead in the brine again
Come cabin fever, sodomy on the bounty
    Prey to phallus seas
That hiss and foam to douse disease
A storm roars on the way
Blacker than the Ace of Rapes
Dealt out by Death in darkwood glades
Our Ship of Fools, all boards handmade
    Sinks, dashed by seismic waves..."

I know it'snot the prettiest verse ever, but I love the flow of it. S'a spoken word bit at the end of a Cradle Of Filth song.

    Adieu tristesse
    Bonjour tristesse
Tu es inscrite dans les lignes du plafond
Tu es inscrite dans les yeux que j'aime
Tu n'es pas tout á fait la misére
Car les lévres les plus páuvres te dénoncent
    Par un sourire
    Bonjour tristesse
    Amour des corps aimables
    Puissance de l'amour
    Dont l'amabilité surgit
    Comme un monstre sans corps
    Téte désappointée
    Tristesse beau visage

French is such a beautiful language anyways :P <3

In today's episode, Insect Overlord brings you yet another case of thread-necromancy!

I'm sure I posted this video on the forum before (probably in the Soundtrack to Your Angst thread) but I reckon it's worth posting here too. And I'm not just doing this because I know one of the guys involved in making the video! :p It's a beautiful song with a really moving video and it's something I think deserves more attention than it's had thus far.

    More music\poetry love:

That song was a collaboration with Yann Tiersen, who also makes other beautiful pieces of music.

I hope this hasn't already been posted... :o If it has, I think it's deserving of a second mention :P
    In the cold misty morning
    gleaming rays awake the dawn
Here I stand - a stranger in this land
    does your conscience betray you?
    falling from grace -
feel the sun on my face
    does desire still hold true?

    Mystified by her beauty -
does the hunter pity his prey?
    Under starless skies all
Love must die and fade away

Take my hand - divine or damned
Make a stand, seize the day
Yours or mine, damned of divine
Draw the line, come what may...

    Looking down from ethereal skies
    Silent crystalline tears I cry
For all must say their last goodbye -
    to Paradise

My yearning is silenced by angelic skin of white
Love conquers all for heaven's fall
    this faithful night.
Yours or mine - damned of divine
    Draw the line - serpentine...

    Love is a tragedy
all that I have, all that I'll ever need
    is right here inside
Let the winds of freedom be my guide

    Looking down from Ethereal Skies
    Silent crystalline tears I cry
For all must say their last goodbye -
    to Paradise

    Looking down from Ethereal Skies
    Silent crystalline tears I cry
For all must say their last goodbye -
    to Paradise
    Say goodbye, goodbye, hold on!

...so I've cheated and I've lied
been the victim of foolish pride
and I've begged and I've crawled
and I've battled and bled for it all
    now I'll savor the downfall...
    of Paradise

    Looking down from Ethereal Skies
    Silent crystalline tears I cry
For all will say their last goodbye
    to Paradise
