Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just done a few river dives. Visibility was excellent, water temp was 2 degrees.. Was wearing a full face mask so didn't really mind the cold

I never done a river dive, have done lakes. Whats the river diving like ? Did you do the diving in the river just to get out and about or is it a worthwhile dive ? Whats depths like, life etc

I river dive quite a bit. I usually go when the club aren't going to sea. I like river diving because it gives me experience for our search and rescue unit. There is always a bit of life, but I'm more interested in finding things being honest. Depth would be around 4m usually..

River diving is great - especially if you're lazy :-)

Went for a couple of dives in Killary yesterday. Water was 6deg... bit chilli but manageable in the semi-dry! Sea was flat calm and visibility was great, water's very clear this time of year.

Got a few photos when I was down...

Well we were down around 30 so darkness was more of a factor than murkiness. Around 15m there was a good 10m maybe... hard to guage really! No algae this time of year so water tends to be clearer.

Here's another version of the scallop shot, you can see the eyes better!

Have not river dived before. Is it like a drift dive assuming the water is moving. How does that work - do you need short help? (or walk alot back). Do you dive when the tide is in or out? Is the depth not a pain to control or do you add a lot more weight to compensate. is the water temp usually higher. How do you avoid stirring up the sediment?

Dived Carraroe at the weekend. Two 30min dives but very shallow as low tide on a huge spring tide. Most of the normal dive sites were above water! Water was extremely clear and wasn't too cold in the semi-dry.

Few photos on the gallery thread or on Flickr.

Stiophan you might want to start a new river diving thread, not really related to january diving. And this thread will probably die now as it's turned Feb today!

Did a few shore dives during the cold snap in Jan.

Dived off of white strand in Clare. Class little dive, Visability was excellent. Around 10-12 metres. A very cold 6 degrees though....... especially when ya'd surface!
