Why do other places get the likes of deadmau5 and we have to be subjected to the coronas and that riverside retard?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4 flooded bridges

    Does seem rather unfair...

One of my friends is down in Cork and she told me that 2ManyDjs and Deadmau5 are relatively cheap to get and easy enough to access.. I mean that'd make a festival...

If I wanted the bloody Coronas and the riverside dude I'd head to my local teeny bopper disco...

Could someone tell the clearly aged and decrepit mickstupp how to pronounce "Deadmau5"?

Dead as in dead and mau5 as in mouse. When put together it sounds like something your cat drags in after a good days hunting

    SU web address is nuimsu.com

    But it's completely neglected.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,890 ✭✭✭Effluo

But I've heard that UCC are getting Deadmau5 for the auld RAG... Not too expensive either... A bit of Deadmau5 would start the party nicely methinks.

One of my mates knows the ent's officer this year and supposedly he's all into that kind of stuff!(if you know what I mean) He tried getting him to play for crimbo, but he wasn't available. Mind you he might be around rag week yet.

And if he is, what a night that would be!

So who else is going to be there other than; Mundy, Sidney Samson, Corona's, Duke Special, The Chapters, Flannery, Neosupervital and Japenese Popstars

They say there will be 3 stages and 12 hours, can't see those 8 acts having 4 hour sets :D

And does it mean if I want to go to the headphone disco this year I have to pay €35 the only good thing they ever do!!!

Im praying to God that this is not only event of rag week, because the majority of people will find the lineup a load of s**t.

Right looking at the lineup and its awful. It caters for the minority in the college. This is my evaluation and Im sure its 90% of the colleges evaluation also

    1. Sidney Sampson: He has one song that people know. It ll be good crack bopping along to it but after that song, nobody will know wtf he is playing.
    2. Mundy: Personally I quite like Mundy but the majority of people know only Galway Girl and nothing else.
3.Duke Special: Heard of him but dont know any of his songs.
    4. The Coronas: IMO they're muck. But probably the best act to cater for the masses due to the fact the MAJORITY have heard of at least THREE of their songs.

And then bands 90% of people have ever have ever heard of or any of their songs: Mick Flannery, The Chapters, NeoSupervital and The Japaneese Popstars.

This is a really poor lineup compared with other years when you had the likes of Sash, Mark McCabe and even when you have bands like five or S Club 7 the MAJORITY of people have heard of and can have a bit of craic singing along to them whilst p*****d.

The SU better have something better lined up for the other days of rag week or my week will be spent in Bradys, Mantra, O Neills, the Roost and on that mystery bus.

C'mon just because you haven't seen or heard of a band on TV/Radio doesn't mean they're not good, open your mind a little!

The popstars are really well known, with people who like house/rave music anyway.

Any chance of us getting the Script? Be worth it to see them imo. Decent band.

Yeah it doesnt mean they arent good. Like I said I like a lot of Mundy's songs yet Galway Girl is his only real hit that doesnt mean he isnt good imo. But the fact is the majority of people do like these cheesy pop hits. You want proof type in S Club 7 into YouTube and they have about 5 songs with 4m and 3m views. They're the sort of guilty pleasure everybody sings along to whilst drunk. Then type Duke Special into YouTube and he hasnt got one song with over 100,000 views. Why? Because the majority of people dont like his music.

Do 90% of people like house or rave? No! And the popstars arent that well known with people who like rave/house. They are well known within Ireland. Outside of it they are unknown.

Anyway back on track the SU are seriously letting down the majority of students here and their lineup this year will have a very limited appeal to the majority of students.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,960 ✭✭✭allandanyways

I couldn't even be arsed. Same Wednesday as usual for me, lectures and study, absolutely shíte line-up and the thoughts of paying 35euros to listen to that fcuking Riverside and Galway Girl crap...

    Give me grammar conjugations anyday.

    /nerd rant.

In all seriousness though, if I do go out during "Charity Week", it'll be to the pub.

    lol
    90%? didn't realise there was a quota :o
There are a load of very popular house bands inc Daft Punk, Booka Shade & Justice to name a few. It's become very popular recently and although i'm really not sure if 90% of the student body would appreciate house music:P, but certainly a lot would!

Seriously though, they have some very good toonz, their only starting out and i kinda figure they may be ones for the future.
I'm glad they're there anywho adds variety.

I wouldn't be suprised if a good few more acts were to be put up closer to the date. As others were saying there's a lot of time to fill.

No, but you don't want to pay €35 to go see a load of bands you've never heard off

And when is 90% of the student body gonna fit in the SU!!!!

My 5th and final year in Maynooth and another pathetic RAG week line up. Messiah J and the Expert have been the best act i've seen in the SU and i'm not even mad about hip-hop.

Is there anyone in the know with the SU that knows how they pick the acts because it really can't be the Ents officer that organises RAG week. I mean it's the same ****e every single year, surely one of the new Ents officers over the years would have tried something new. It's a shame really as there's a lot of very very good alternative Irish acts around that could be booked for really cheap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 164 ✭✭useded

I was trying to get a fairly big Irish act for this year for the alt music concert but we were told next year instead due to them touring. A shame really, could have brought back a bit of dignity to to the SU!

They're equivalent to Westlife in my mind. Pretty boys singing about crushes and pre-angst rubbish.

i can see where that view would come from (especially from their song "i'm yours") but i think overall there something mainly different from westlife

A guitar holding version of Westlife then. They're still embarrassingly bad.

    Ya I thought that alright.

Very uninformed comment. The Script incorporate instruments into their songs, they write their own songs afaik and the lead singer has a very good voice. They're certainly in a different league than Westlife.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,081 ✭✭✭LeixlipRed

Sorry, I'm a complete music snob and I think they're utterly terrible. Maybe comparing them to Westlife is a bit much but in my mind I'd be as likely to go see them in concert as I would Westlife.

That's understandable. I wouldn't go see them in concert either, I just thought they'd be a decent band to get for rag week but as JP said, we probably couldn't get them to come here.

They're based in the US aren't they anyway?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,960 ✭✭✭allandanyways

I just don't think the SU get acts that people really want to see for RAG Week. I'm not going to pay to listen to Mundy or any of the other acts that are on. Let's face it, RAG week in most colleges is just a venue for acts that are either homegrown and not doing amazingly well, or bits of old 90's bands etc.

Final year in Maynooth and I still don't get the big whoop-de-doo about RAG week. You can go out on the piss all week any week of the year. Lectures are still on like.

On the plus side, the library is guaranteed to be free of the wee bastárds and their headphones and incessant talking so it'll be a rant-free week for me

    /rant. Honestly, I'm not a sour bitch, I just hate people. ;)

Couldn't agree more, every year it's

Girl: "OMG ARE YOU NOT GOING OUT??!?!?!?!!!!WUN"

    Me: "No."

Girl: "OMG OMG BUT ITS RAAAAAG WEEK!!!!"

I don't give a s**t. Go make up some other week and leave me the f**k alone.

    (I haven't slept in a while:()

False alarm, from the facebook page:
Maynooth's First Music FESTIVAL 'THE GATHERING' Mar 3rd: Sidney Samson, The Coronas, Mundy, The Japanese Popstars, Duke Special, The Chapters, Mick Flannery and More Acts to be announced - Funfair/ Oxygen Bar/ Food Stalls/ Silent Olympic Disco/ Wii Tent and all this right on your doorstep! Get your wellies on!!!

More great acts announced: Saccade, Grand Pocket Orchestra, Saving J and Futures Apart!!!

In Association with CHARITY WEEK 2010:

RAG Week stands for Raise And Give Week and the purpose of the week has always been to run events and fundraise for a chosen charity.

Over the years, the charity part of the week and the message has been lost, so this year, RAG Week is becoming CHARITY WEEK with 'The Gathering' being the highlight of the week, a huge first for Maynooth Students' Union, NUI Maynooth and the town of Maynooth.

There will be alot of the features - day-time and evening events - students will have come to expect from previous years, but the real focus of CHARITY WEEK 2010 is to raise money for The Little Way, Cancer Support Charity in Clane.

It's usually the green across from my house that gets me. Or the grass outside the SU. Two RAG weeks in a row, I fell in the mud then nagged them into letting me back into the SU.
