The Isner - Sorensen tie was a second round game, Sorensen had beaten an opponent 170 places above him in the 1st round on Tuesday morning.

But you're right, its good to have Irish representatives in Tournaments Irish people have heard of.

The ranking table is updated every week so the current tournaments ranking points will be added while last years tournaments points will be deleted. Louk Sorensen for instance currently has 154 points but will have earned 70 points for the Aus Open so when the points are updated after the aus Open he will have 224 points.
There are 3 tiers of tournaments---Grands Slams and ATP events for the top players (winner would get +/- 500 points for winning an ATP event---then there are challenger events for players outside the top 60 or 70 (up to about 250) where the winner would get about 70 points and then finally there are Future tournaments for players below 250 (winner may get 10-15 points). A player can pick his best 20 tournaments per year to find his ranking. So it all really means that Sorensen will still be playing Challenger events but he wont have to prequalify for them cos of his ranking ...

I hope Louk's performance will kick-start the interest in tennis in Ireland. Would be interesting to find any hidden talent around the country.:)
