Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,

Trying to change the wheel on a Nissan Micra-have all the bolts out of the wheel but the it's not budging at all. Any ideas on what the problem might be?

    Thanks.

    It's off the ground yeah?
Sometimes they are rusted, put a nut on halfway again and then give the wheel a few kicks. It should loosen it up for you.
The nut is there to make sure wheel doesn't jump off and hurt you.

give the wheel a few taps with a hammer but be careful if it is up on the jack.

    +1

Maybe give the wheel a few taps (and I mean taps) with a hammer from behind.

    Simple,

The wheel has seized onto the disc/drum.

It needs to be 'persuaded' to come off.

My advice, jack up car and use axle stands, find a bit of 2x4 wood about 2 foot long. Put it behind the wheel (making sure not to tangle any wires/brake lines) and hammer it, if it still does not come off, rotate wheel 180 degrees and repeat.

When you get the wheel off, clean all excess rust/residue of what seized it

Only use the hammer / kick / brute force method if you have axle stands (in addition to the jack) to support the vehicle.

If you dont have axle stands, another method is to put the nuts back in, lightly tighten them by hand and then undo them again by about one full turn, so that they are on, but a bit loose.

Then lower the car back down. If you lucky, just setting it down will break the rusty connection. If not, try pushing it back and forth about half a wheel rotation each way.

If that still doesn't do it, then try brute force, rock the vehicle sideways, kick the offending tyre, etc (with the vehicle off the jack)
