State Pension and Private Pension

Hi,

Quick question.

- If you have a private pension, will you also receive the state pension when you retire?

I always assumed you would since you make regular PRSI contributions all your working life but I was talking to a friend recently and they were adamant that it's one or the other.

Check the details of your private pension, you'll probably find that it is reduced by the amount of the state pension

I agree. It depends on the terms of your pension. Many pensions are on an integrated or semi integrated basis. Check the wording.
