    Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed that a lot of teens seem to have a problem with people that have more money or a better house and stuff than them.
Or am I just imagining things

Sorry if this is in the wrong place

I think that's an Irish thing in general.

Personally i don't think many teens dislike people who have more money than them.

I, like most people, take people for face value, who they are as people.
Sure there are grave misconceptions about the "higher" "middle" and "working" classes.
But i believe it's to do with the attitudes shown by those of the "higher class" that give rise to these stereotypes and general dislike that may occur.

No im definately not saying all higher class are....this and that....but there are a minority who give them all a bad name.

It's totally comparable to the minority of scumbags that give the working class a bad name.

C&H is the wrong place to ask, C&H is a place of class and sophistication.

I think this is a misconception on your part. I don't have any problems with people with more money than me, and I don't know many teens who do tbh. I have alot of friends who are waaaay more well off than me and they're generally actually very genorous.

I'm a guy though, so maybe women are different and all that. Doubt it though.

    SO'S YOUR FACE!

I've never really come across this though, and jealousy is one of those long term "human" afflictions tbh!

and full of lies by the sound of it.

I personally don't have any bad feelings towards rich folk. Two of my best friends in college live in the heart of D4 with houses like mansions and golden security droids to keep the commoners out.

I on the other hand am from a fairly small farm in Mayo, where i've worked hard almost every day, we always had enough to go on,but not a whole lot besides.

I don't judge people on where they're from or what kind of background/stuff they have,it's personality that matters.

There are asshats in everything whether they are loaded or not.

I don't have a problem with people who are maybe more well off than me cause money isn't a major thing in my life, but I do get annoyed by the concept of people asking oh what did you get for Christmas or whatever just to get a reply like is that all ? I got this this and this. Thats when I dislike people better off than me but that is only on a rare occasion.

I actually really hate when people do that too,Id never do that. I got into a huge argument with one of my best friends after they said something similar to one of the boys in my class. I think thats just low.

I'm really not conviced this is something strictly to do with teenagers.
On the other hand, it's always nice when Randy pops in to see us, so I'll allow it.

    jealousy

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,231 ✭✭✭Fad

Blisterman nailed it, it's the most stereotypical Irish thing.

"Blah rargh no recession in that house" etc

    Get over it :)

Considering most of my friends are fairly well off and I'm not, and I don't begrudge them anything, I think that post is a load of crap. I've never been jealous of them or begrudged them for their money/life.

The one thing close to that which I'd feel is the desire for my parents to have the lifestyle they deserve considering how much they work to keep us happy and comfortable, not to mention sending me to college.

Sweeping generalizations are always so delightful.

I'm inclined to agree, but the OP pointed it that way, so ...
On the other hand, it's always nice when Randy pops in ...
Funny how many people say that!

    [OffTopic] I forgot your interrogation entirely, didn't I? >.<

I think people have more than I have have too many things. This is in accordance with a Physical law that says that I'm the definition of perfection of course. ;)

I don't care if you have better things than I do. I get a bit annoyed that you'd tell me about all the great **** you have because I don't care. I do think you might be a bit unwise if you buy things you'll barely/never use.

I notice the typical Irish f*cking begrudgery, in older generations than I do in teenagers to be honest.

"I see Egans got a new car there... well for some"

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,908 ✭✭✭Daysha

An American guy sees a very rich man walking down the street. He has an amazing car, a beautiful wife, a gorgeous house, wonderful kids, everything is going perfectly for him. The American simple says "I wanna be that guy".

5 minutes later and a Irish guy walks past the same man. He looks at his car, his home, his family, he's got it all. The Irishman says "I wanna fcuking punch that guy".

    </thread>

I used to use the very same analogy to wind up a friend of mine, but with "American" changed to "capitalist" and "Irish guy" changed to "socialist". :D
Said friend is now still heavily involved in Socialist poilitics, so it didn't put him off one bit...

I don't know many rich people (seeing as I am working class myself) but the ones I do know always do their very best to make me feel insignificant and stupid.

Its not just rich people I dislike, I actively dislike everyone.

I love knowing people who are loaded, makes for great house parties and birthday presents.

are you well off by any chance? maybe its the way you come accross to people that make them act they seem jealous! i know i always manage to give the wrong first impression!:o! i really have never seen any of this and in college there is a mix of very rich and very poor! maybe in secondary school there might be some jealously as they are not working yet and are jealous of a well off persons clothes etc but that is a small minority and i dont think it lasts very long!
im not rich or poor, just comfortable and i dont have any bad feelings towards people with more money then me

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,919 ✭✭✭Grindylow

Why would you even bother posting such a stupid question unless you wanted to show off about it?
I'm not saying anything about being jealous etc.. but most people who have lots of money don't go around asking questions like this.
    Grow up child..

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,457 ✭✭✭Blisterman

I think it's a fairly reasonable question, and in fact, you're coming across exactly as the OP described, with a chip on your shoulder.

depends on the person i think!!!

if me and my best frisnd were shopping and saw someone with lets say a real designer bag..(i have a good sense if its a rip-off or the real thing)...i will look at it and say something along the lines of...'wow...mulberry its so nice...so designer..wow s/s collection and all' and i will probably look at the person and be like wow...nice style!
My friend will probably make a face and b lik ...'ugh stuiped rich person watevrrr ugh...blah..ugh'
Its kind of funny really and I always say to her what if that woman works really hard and got promoted and a pay-rise?..what if she works so hard she deserves her designer handbag??
Because unless you know the person you can never tell if they were born into money or actually went out their and earned it....

*im actually bottom of the food chain whan it comes to money (not that its a bad thing) !!!. just like looking up designer collection online in case... one day!!!
