last years other beaten semi finalist were complete outsiders? the team who only along with ourselves and cork have been hammering the average teams... i said before the semi on performances this year i feared mayo a lot more than the dubs. they bet Down by more than we did (just), have gone about their business very quietly but very efficently the whole year[/QUOTE]

They didn't look overly impressive against Sligo but no doubt they have stepped up a few gears against Down, Dublin and in the final you don't know what way it will pan out.

That's a really good idea for a thread. Post pics of how we're supporting the boys in green and gold. Who's Donegal's biggest supporter... :)

Anyone else see the D.O.N.E.G.A.L spelt out on the hill as you come into Malin?

Well done to whoever is responsible.

Could someone post a pic of this?

Sorry, hard to get a good photo of it without a big lens, but it gives you an idea of it anyway.

Looks like there might be an 'Up' above the DONEGAL too. Will try to get a better look tomorrow.

Is this the one where someone sent a text to Shaun Doherty complaining that it was an eyesore?

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,626 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Yeah think they did, bloody killjoys!

I assumed it was white bangs of sand or turf bags or something (can't make it out from the road into Malin), but now that they light up at night I am really confused.

Anyone know what the UP DONEGAL is made of?

ticket sorted, work to keep me mind occupied til the wee hours, head for dublin after a quick kip and croker... the end is in sight! win/lose its been a hell of a year from the lads who deserve a huge homecomming.

the 2 best teams are in the final without a doubt, going to be one hell of a game. just over 24 hours now.... cant wait! see ye on the otherside!

not long up... epic day yesterday, not hungover but sure best be off on the cure now as a precaution:D

may not have been the best final ever, we played better football in the last 3 games but they are there to be won and we did it without some of the nasty stuff coming from mayo and what for a long time felt like a ref trying to drag them back into it... even heard billy joe padden comment on the soft frees at half time on the way to the jacks. in fairness tho keegan for mayo had a storming 15 minutes or so also

    on donegal:D
murphy answered the few people who have said he is over rated in 2 minutes with a absolute beauty, hes been improving with every game this year... should have seen the motm performance comming!

Lacey running to the hill, ball in hand at the final whistle

(if i mention everything in between it becomes a long list!)

something about the players & their wee kids with sam

saw this attributed to brolly today
"I think Donegal's system remains virginal in the sense that it's never been penetrated":D

dublin is the only AI finalist since 03 that we havnt beaten this year... sams for the hills and it was done the hard way!
    see ye in town!

    ps dannie timing is everything!

So after the weekends games Dungloe, st. Michaels, Glenties and Glenswilly are through to the quarter finals.Third games needed to separate Eunans/Kilcar, Bundoran/Glenfin, Fanad/Killybegs and Ardara/Four Masters.

The above playoff games are Wednesday and Thursday with the pick imo, being Eunans and Kilcar on Thursday at 8 in Convoy.

Attended Killybegs and Fanad game last night. Killybegs were deserving winners but Fanad really put it up to them in the final quarter. Killybegs will now meet Eunans or Kilcar who play tonight in Convoy.

Really looking forward to this. Eunans are 10/11 favourites with ladbrookes, Kilcar are 6/4. Fancy Eunans in this tbh. I think they showed their true colours on Sunday in Kilcar. Eunans by 2-3 points.

Tonights other game will be decided by how Michael Doherty plays. If he's in scoring form (as he usually is in fairness) Four masters will win. If Ardara can keep their tackling very disciplined and give away few scoreable frees they have a chance.

Michael Doherty showed once again how important he is to Four Masters with a fantastic last minute free against St. Michaels to send the game to a reply on Thursday night in McCool park. Huge pressure on the kick as the referee blew the final whistle after the kick out. It went over with the help of a post but Four Masters deserved another crack at it.

St. Michaels really missing Martin McElhinney imo. That said a lot of Four Masters key men, Dunnion, Monaghan, Carr are getting on in years and 3 championship games in 7 days is an awful lot to ask. I think St. Michaels will do the job on Thursday.

bearing in mind the championship only started at the end of october and they needed the extra game in the first round its 5 in roughly 2 1/2 weeks, makes it sound even tougher! Pretty sure Dunnion isnt 30 yet, injuries the prolem there but a few players who have formed the backbone for so long are getting on. should hopefully make it to this one.
This weeks fixtures if anyone hasnt seen em

    SFC Semi Finals

bloody hell after the talk of the amount of games masters had to play and the importance of doherty we got proved wrong!
doherty goes of injured and toastie (great game) and papa come up and knock over the frees bar 1 or 2. St. Michaels looked more clinical at times and when they went 4 up really thought it was game over. Four masters got back into it though and St. Michaels didnt score again. For all the talk of x games in weeks they ran them ragged in extratime. McFadden despite a few good ones wasnt as clinical as his intercounty games.

Pretty level in normal time, Durcan with 2 great saves (really keeping them in it given the scoreboard at the time), Four Masters also missing 2 good goal chances, one right before the michaels goal when it was level. Some awful passing all round for the first 2/3rds of the game. Clocked lacey with at least 5 howlers of passes but it was still a good performance from him. 1-8 to 11 in normal time, 1-8 to 1-15 after AET

how lets see how they handle game 6 in 3 weeks:pac::pac:

So its Naomh Conaill v St Eunan's in the county final. Is it taking place on Sunday 28th Oct or 4th Nov? Are the Ulster board waiting for the Donegal team? I believe the first round of Ulster began at the weekend.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,218 ✭✭✭overshoot

final is november 4th. our county champs were supposed to play crossmaglen that day but they agreed to postpone it as there was a free weekend after it. ulster council had left it up to donegal & armagh decide, if armagh had wanted to play it november 4th we would have been rushing the championship even more or forefit

so all stars are out, 8 in the bag and a definate foty to come and maybe a ypoty...
im bored so few facts for the next time ur in a pub...

only the 4th time 8 or more all stars have been awarded to a team since the all star awards began in 1971. tyrone 2005 (8), dublin 1977 (9) and Kerry 1981 (9). and beating our 92 team which had 7.

donegal also jump to 4th and the highest ulster representative on the awards list; now with 25, level with meath and behind only Kerry 49, Dublin 42, and cork with 33. Armagh & mayo 24, Down & galway 23, and Tyrone 22 just behind us. Derry next up on 17. this bit is off... a lot, i had checked one or 2 to make sure it wasnt counting multiple award winners as just 1 as id thought but it hadnt matched up, so god knows what they did count!

so i counted off awards in total per county, so laceys 4 in in donegal's number, spillanes 9 in kerrys etc. puts us down to 9th and no2 in ulster.
    kerry 129
    dublin 86
    cork 64
    meath 49
    tyrone 40
    galway 37
    mayo 30
    offaly 29
    donegal 27
    derry 27
    armagh 24
    down 24
    kildare 15
    roscommon 15

Matrin & Mark McHugh are a pair of just 7 father and son AI winners (brogans of dublin are the only father and 2 son combination... good thing theres more wee mchughs, cant be letting the dubs away with it:pac:)

lacey is on award 4, one more and he will join a list of 23 (over both codes) with 5 or more

ourselves and limerick (though limerick havnt got to a AI since the 1800s) are the only counties not to have lost an AI final... Down could also claim this til 2010. Fermanagh is the only ulster county not to have played in a AI final
