This bugs the crap out of me. In the last few months, I've cut back greatly on how much I drink on a night out; I can't afford it and I despise hangovers! And I always get someone saying "ahhhh have a few more and get proper drunk, you're sooooooooooo much fun when you're really drunk!!!11!!!!"

    This. All of it..

    Bleh, feck off like:(

I decided I wouldn't go out at all the last 2 weeks cos I've been scraping pennies and it's just too expensive, and I've never experienced the like of the nagging I've gotten over it. It's so annoying like:(

    Drinks on me in Cork!

I had a really nice bottle of Argentinian wine last night, which I enjoyed very responsibly. Vietnom.

I have recently turned to Captain Morgans and it is NOMtastic! :D I hate the taste of beer and wine, spirits always for me!

Also, forcing yourself to drink at least 1 litre of water before going to bed and more during the night, so simple, so effective. I used to be hideously hungover after literally 2 drinks, but mmm water :D

After my first two weeks in college, while I've had a great time overall, the drink culture is fairly prevalent - there's something on all the time. I'm all for socialising, I definitely don't wanna be a dryballs and all, but this isn't why I came to college. I'm not sure how much benefit drinking has been to the experience, all things taken into account. It's been around 12 months since I started drinking, and it's so often ended up in feeling horrible and anxious in the morning. I don't think it's doing me much favours, but I honestly have no idea how one could go out and go to clubs and that sober. I don't wanna miss out either... I know from a drinking perspective, lots of people do give you a second glance if you say you don't drink.

Perhaps it's an everything-in-moderation thing and just a bit of sensibility is required. Every option has it's own advantages and disadvantages. Anyone been in this situation?

    /completely random reflection

(EDIT: Actually err...first time reading this thread, looks like there's quite a few people in a similiarish boat! :P )
Thing I've found with college is you'll find people who will mock you for not drinking then you'll find people who honestly don't care what you do. If people are making you feel small and insignificant, screw them, there's about 10,000 other people out there, don't be left with assholes who make you feel like you have to do something. That's the mistake I made and in a way I wish I hadn't even started the way I did this year because I wasn't really doing it for myself, just to show other people. Now I'm finding some brilliant people who I feel completely comfortable going on a night out with, and it's my decision whether to drink or not, not theirs.

Wine is delicious! There's a really nice New Zealand white in Carry Out at the moment that is super, and also pretty good value. omnomnomnomnomnomomonomon

Thirded on wine, really nice with a steak dinner! It can be pretty potent stuff if you're not careful though :P

Last night I went out with two boys and drank almost the exact same amounts as they did. They're big guys. Stupid stupid stupid. We came home then and finished off a bottle of rum for the craic. I don't like rum. Now I feel stupid and sick. Ugh. First night in a long time I've drank. Going to take it a little bit slower now.

The best thing you can do is drink water, I always say this to people before they go to sleep, to avoid a bad hangover. It doesn't always prevent one, but if you do it's a hell of a lot less worse than if you don't drink water the night before.

Captain Morgans is amazing, and I think certain drinks affect different people differently in terms of getting hangovers, and Captain Morgans for me doesn't affect me too bad (whereas something like pints of cider would).

And yes, definitely about the water. Most hangovers are just dehydration, drink water before you go to bed, leave water beside your bed for during the night if you wake up, and drink water after getting up in the morning. And go outside! Usually helps with the hangovers!

I'm too busy at the moment to go out anywhere near as much as I'd like. I'd be lucky to manage once every 2nd week. Going out at weekends in college would suit my schedule much nicer, but it just seems to be the done thing to go out weekdays only (at least with most people I know!).

I'm with you on this, I wish more people would stay up during the weekend and go out then, besides pressuring me to go out on a tuesday night.

I dont get pressured into drinking..probably because i do enough of it voluntarily when i go out :p But what i really hate is the pressure that i get about going out in the first place. I do enjoy going out but i don't feel the need to go out all the time.

Friend: Did you go out lastnight?
    Me: Nope
    Friend: WHAT?! How come?
    Me: Didnt feel like it...

I have had way too many conversations like this!! Some people act like staying in is the worst thing on the planet and should be avoided at all costs..

Story of my life tbh! I'm nagged constantly about going out..most of the time I'm not in the mood and don't have the money to go out..I'm not into going out every single week, the novelty wears out quickly..and it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too expensive..hardly a hard thing to understand surely:confused:

Nights in with flatmates/friends are so underrated. Wayyy cheaper and often more fun with the right people!

Same, we get a good run of 4 nights in the first 2 weeks or so, and then probably only go out properly about 2 or 3 times more for the rest of the semester (if we're lucky :P) cos of exams.

I feel like I'm getting old, we spend a lot of time just doing social visits and chatting for a few hours...so much fun though! :D

Really? Had a bottle of alcohol-free Bavaria a while back after a night out and it nearly made me retch. Tasted likes suds, mingin.

Had to go back and quote this, at a certain point (of drinking and stuff) even strong beer like stella tastes like detergent. So maybe I need to taste alcohol-free Bavaria while I'm sober to see how it actually tastes. :pac:

After seeing me extremely horrendously hungover on New Years Day my 15 year old cousin has informed me that she'll probably wait a while before she'll try drinking and shall be very cautious when she does......

So can my 2 day hangover from hell be counted as a win??

Mr Jack and Mr Morgans are fantastic people, but when mixed. Sweet jesus they become something so much worse. Almost, DEMON like. Never again.

You didn't enjoy what my friend Tom calls the Captain Jack Sparrow??

I need to get into the mindset that, going out enjoying myself does not mean consuming as much alcohol before rolling I am around the floor. I don't actually go out much but when i do, I completely binge drink. It's actually scary when I wake in the morning after and have no memory of what happened the night before. Moderation will be my friend from now on.

    No-one has preferred Jack Daniel's yet :)

Quiet night in, Jim Beam, soda water and ice, can't be beaten.
