Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've been searching for a course arounf Dublin\Kildare and while there are a few out there, it always good to be recommended one! I'm looking for a beginners course for digital SLR photography.

I've heard of the Gallery of Photography, but there don't seem to be any for beginners -

This one with the IOP looks pretty comprehensive. The night course is on very late though -

Also stubbled accross this one -

The Dublin Camera club also run beginners courses but these are full :(.

    Any advice greatly appreciated :)

This one comes highly recommended, by many people starting out. I haven't done it myself, but know a few who have. A very good beginners intro.

The Dublin Camera club also run beginners courses but these are full :(.

Our courses do fill up quite fast now. At €100 for ten weeks it is quite cheap. We have the advantage that all our instructors volunteer their time.

I have heard good things about the IOP & Peter Cox's courses.

You could also get a copy of the book, that is recommended a lot here, "Understanding Exposure" and doing some reading. The fundementals of Photography are the same, whether it be Film or Digital.

I took the biginners course at IOP, i thought it was very good

I'm doing the improvers at the moment(first class last night)

Cant comment on any of the other courses but would certainly recommend the IOP one

Did it run at the same time - 9pm to 10.30pm? This is a little late for me!

CS - do you know when the camera club are running another beginners course?

I did get a book but I feel that it can only take you so far - there is no substitute for face to face teaching!

    Thanks

Get that 'Understanding Exposure' book. You won't look back. It's extremely cheap on Amazon.co.uk.

We will be running the course again in September.

Why not come along to the club for a meeting. There are plenty there who will help you out informally, quite a few of them are on here too. The club also has regular outings where you can learn from others. At the end of each Beginners Course we also run a Beginners Outing, which as a member you would be welcome to attend.

If the OP is living in Kildare he'd be very welcome to come along to South Kildare Photo club we meet on Thursdays in Newbridge 8.00PM to 10.00PM.

There are also some beginners courses in the local VEC schools, there may still be some places.
