How do courses without specific points requirements (E.g: Journalism at D.I.T.) work? It just says you must have 2 honours and a HC3 in English. Is it just that the people who met highest requirements get places or what?

but but www.qualifax.ie says journalism in DIT was 405 points last year up 5 from 2008.

points are determined by the demand so hypothetically speaking if 50,000 leaving cert students decided to go to the aran islands for a year out then minimum requirements would gain you entry to the vast majority of courses

some courses then like art and design have alternative points system where portfolios count for points

These are the minimum specific requirements for this course, you must have these to be considered ... even if you have 600 points but only a Pass in English, you won't be considered.

Among those who meet these requirements, ordering for places will be done by points as normal.

generally i'd say all courses on the cao list work by the 'points system' for people under 23 anyway or for people applying by routes other than the leaving cert

Oh, the prospectus didn't give a points requirement.

    Thanks guys.

It can't, because they vary every year depending on the number of applications for that course, etc. The most it could give (which some do) is the points for last year ... but that would be only indicative, which is the danger with giving it, because some people will glance and think that it's set in stone.

    And you're welcome. :)
