    I keep trying to enter my site through this sitemap and keep getting an error,

    is there a procedure to do this right and can someone explain it

    What is the error?

    I'm lazy and use a site map generator, upload the resulting xml file to your server, point google webmaster tools to this file and bobs your uncle.
