MK1 Golf GTI 1990 buying advise

    Hi,

I am looking to buy a Golf GTI MK1 year 1990. I found it here on carzone http://www.carzone.ie/search/Volkswagen/Golf-GTi/Golf--MK/200915192458132/advert?channel=CARS

I did a background check on it on cartell and found out that its imported and first registered here 1997, sort of knew that anyway, but that it has no NCT (last one was due 2000) and no tax since it expired in 1998. It is also registered with the motortax office as a saloon. Car comes up as having 2 owners, one in the previous country and one in Ireland, last date of sale is in 2000.

I am interested in the car but just want to see if there is anything that could become aproblem in relation to this. I was told that some McClusky family had the car for quite a while up in drogheda and then traded it in at Cameron Cars in Glasnevin which are now selling it.

Any info on what I should look out for?

    Thanks

Have you seen it or called about the history? I'd expect a pretty decent example with full service history etc. for that money...

hi, I've testdriven the car and compared to another one I was testdriving before it went smooth, even though it has no power steering, I havent asked for history yet, but planning on asking all the necessary questions next time I'll go up so the history should be pretty complete you say? what problems can there be if it isn't?

I'll have a mechanic check it before I take the car and expect it to pass the nct as well before I get it, dealer said he would get it nct ready and make any adjustments if it should fail, which he doesnt expect because they are going to prepare it and full service will be done
