Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hair extensions - how many??

    Hi Ladies,

Quick one about hair extensions. Went into hairdressers today to enquire about them, they are 12" pieces and are 18" length.

My hair is just below shoulder length, and its quite thin. Not very thin but I would never have thought of it as thick. The girl there (she was quite young) said I would need 4 of these packs?! Does anyone think this is quite excessive??

    Heres a link to them:

I dont want to buy this many if I dont need them, but I need them for next week so cant really wait around for them to order more if I need more!!

    Appreciate any advice :)

You could just buy them online

Average full head for length takes between 100g (very fine hair) and 150g (thick hair) so it depends on how much hair you get in each pack.
You're probably going to have to cut some of the wefts because your whole head isn't all the one width, like the area above the nape of your neck is going to be narrower than the area in the middle of your head.

Hard to say without knowing how much hair is in each pack. For a full head of extensions, 4 packs sounds plausible.

Strangely, if you have thick hair you'll need MORE extensions than someone with less/finer hair, because you need to make it blend with your own hair and look natural.

The reason I cant buy them online is that I need them next week (I know, I know!!!)...Hopefully it doesnt look like the person in that picture anyway.....

You could ring American Dream and just ask how much hair is in a pack.
You're much better off having extra to spare than not having enough on your head- the main thing that makes extensions look fake is if you don't have enough and it's very very hard to hide if you don't.

etho there are many photos like that on the web- that's probably the worst example though- they're usually put up by "professional extensionists" who seem to genuinely believe they did a really good job!

This is from what is supposed to be a top salon in London, if you look at the after photo taken from the back, there is not enough extensions at the top. It's gonna be even worse once she washes it and tries to style it herself.

Check out this one, you can really tell where the natural hair ends and the shiny synthetic hair begins

OP There is a company in the UK called Head Kandy and they do full sets of readymade clip ins.. They are different widths so they fit your head better than the American Dream ones. I've heard they do fast delivery and you get a LOT of hair in the set. For example the 16-18" set, you get 150g of hair- that's loads for even thick hair.
