Hope that this can be included as a new thread.

This image from the 2003 TDF presentation - where 21 TDF grand Champions gathered is, to me, an iconic image.

You scrubbed up well for that one :p

But this is my iconic photo:

That is one of the greatest cycling photos ever, IMO.

1998 TDF strike photo is another iconic photo.

The strike came about after Festina, TVM and several other teams were busted and kicked out from the TDF for doping.

The riders strike was in protest at the "interference" from the French civil authorities who were searching team rooms/cars.

I can't locate a still shot from Villach Austria in 1987 when Roche won the World Title and Kelly had his arms aloft as Roche won the race.

This is the closest record I can get of that day, on softcopy

At 56 seconds on this clip : you will see Sean applauding Stephens win

fausto coppi and Gino Bartali - the great italian rivals - share a bottle on a climb in the TDF

On Robert Millars biog there is a picture of him training alone on a grey day on a lonely Scottish road.

Picture is from the rear, but for me captures the loneliness dedication and hard work involved.
A pretty romantic picture that encapsulates one of my favourite cyclists.

Also love the one of the sweat bead on Kellys nose in that famous Carrick to Clonmel TT.

The one of Coppi and Bartalli sharing a drink during the Tour back in the 50s.

The one of Roche coming around the corner after Delgado.

The ones posted of Lemond/Hinault and Kelly are fantastic.

    Finally, the look.

Coppi - alone in the mountains during the TDF.

    Superb sillohouette

sorry to be pedantic, but most of the images here aren't iconic, just cos it's a shot of Merckx doesn't make it iconic. The Kelly photo is, particularly to Irish fans, as are these two because to most cycling fans, they are instantly recognisable & they just capture the essence of cycle racing...

I think this is a great photo from velodramatic.com

    hellyer_avc09-8.jpg

Yes, the small fella trash talked himself into a race for $2K after a throwaway comment on how his fixie was faster even when rolling on knobblie tyres.

He went on to win the race despite being dropped early on after #79 got lost en route

Another one of my favourites. Ullrich in the rain in the final TT of the 2003 Tour de France. Totally ripped and the closest he ever came to winning a second Tour.

Here in my humble opinion is one of the most iconic photos of all time. It features one of the unsung heros of world cycling. But for a complete lack of talent, application etc. this rider could (not) very easily have outshone the greatest in the sport. Ladies & gentlemen, feast your eyes:

For a very large fee, Barry Meehan from Worldwide Cycles in Clonmel, will allow you to reproduce this truly 'iconic' image. For an even bigger fee I'll autograph it for you.

    Ullrich : 2006 TDF medical :

Looked to be in shape : no sign of his having "wintered badly".

The next day Jan was banned from the TDF

After Riis admitted that he had doped to win the '96 Tour I received an email from a friend expressing his hope that Ulrich would do likewise thus elevating his beloved M. Virenque to the top of the podium.
I replied with this picture which I painstakingly edited myself.:o:o:o
