    Hey guys,

I know you're probably sick of this question and i have searched teh forum but havent found this specific advice.

I got my nose pierced with a needle on Tuesday and its been fine. Sensitive or whatever but not painful. I have been cleaning it 3 to 4 times a day with cooled boiled water, sea salt and a q-tip and have been turning it. Yesterday it developed a bit of a white soft crust around the outer area but i paid special care to really clean that part.

Today, the white/yellow soft crust is still there but its a lot more painful today... as in not constant yet it really hurts if i move my nose etc. Is this crust thing something i have to be concerned about or is it just normal whilst healing?

I havent been touching it and its not overly red and not swollen.

Also, i clean the inside too but how do i clean the piercing properly from the inside? Is there a special way? I just dont feel im cleaning it in there properly?

    Am i completly over-reacting?! Haha

Thanks for all replies - sorry bout the long post, didnt expect to rant so much!

    SM x

The crustiness is totally normal, it'll pass in a few weeks so don't worry!

I would recommend preparing your salt water in a mug and while it's still hot (hot as you can bear it without it burning you) stick your whole nose into it and keep it submerged for about 10 minutes twice a day, or a bit less time and do it more often. It sounds and looks really stupid but it'll work so much better and clean your whole piercing at once. The reason for doing it hot is that the heat will draw out any impurities and reduce the chance of your piercing forming any nasty bumps.

Only that's really bad advice. Please don't be offering dodgy advice like that for healing piercings.

How's it all going now Supermouse? :)

Its normal to have discharge from a fresh piercing, so I wouldn't be concerned that you have dried ooze around the site. Seems to me that you are being sensible about cleaning it. May I ask why you're cleaning it up to 4 times a day?

As for the Savlon... why? In my view those antiseptic yokes are generally overated, but with a piercing they are a no no.
