Oh he reminds me of my guy, he was jet black with one white sock, his name was Rambo, total opposite to his personality! He was the quietest soul but can definately relate to that prancey gait!!!

We had the home visit today, and all went well. In the near future, we should be welcoming a foster doggie into our home! I will let you know when that happens and post pics.

Blue was not rescued from travellers, I bought her from a greyhound trainer and sent her to the Blue X, she has been rehomed.

As someone who has been finding homes for greyhounds for several years now, I have never heard such ignorant uninformed advice.

Here's the fact: every year, THOUSANDS of greyhounds are given up by their owners and trainers BECAUSE THEY WON'T CHASE. These dogs are usually excellent candidates for getting socialised with the family cat.

Not every greyhound can be asked to live with cats, but many can. There are a number of ways to do it, and all you have to do is google it and you will find a lot of different ways.

I had one adopter take in two very special needs greyhounds. I myself never would have thought of either of them as even remotely possible candidates for homes with cats. After 6 months, the owner adopted two kittens. The first days were dreadful, but within 2 weeks they were all sleeping together because the greyhounds had accepted the cats as part of their PACK. They might not accept other cats, but they were very willing to accept these two. And that was 2 years ago. No one has been eaten for lunch.

And this is just one of many many greyhounds that have gone into homes with cats. A few years ago I adopted out a greyhound to a well known British author who had FIVE cats. And to an ISPCA inspector who has cats and chickens and ducks.....so please.....

....don't post anti-greyhound drivel unless you actually KNOW what you are talking about.

I found my adorable Greyhound girl wandering the streets of Galway in a dreadful state. I already had a Saluki & had never intended to have a Greyhound. Now I wish that I had done so years ago as she is the most wonderful dog. My Saluki had been trained for Hare Coursing. It took a bit of work but I can now walk her through a field of rabbits & she won't chase.

Cat chasing is not just about the dog. It can really be influenced by the behaviour of the cat. Many dogs will chase a cat if it runs away. The key is to get the pair used to each other in an environment where the cat can always safely escape. Most people who have cats & dogs living in harmony will say that the cat is the boss.

Yep, totally agree. My staffie is cat-friendly (though most cats are terrified of her ). There's a juvenile cat living next door to us and sometimes when we're coming home from a walk the cat won't have spotted my dog, who'll go up and give him a quick sniff and then wander off. Other times the cat will bolt and my dog will go after him just because he ran.
Same actually happened this morning with another cat that was sitting on a doorstep. My girl sauntered up nonchalantly (i.e. didn't panic and scramble for the cat) to give the cat a sniff and the cat took off like a rocket, causing my dog to give chase - I think because she wants to play more than anything.

We brought our first foster greyhound home today! He's a very shy boy, and his name is Sam, but so far he is doing much, much better than anyone anticipated. He has been very good with the cats so far!

I've attached a picture of him during his exploratory session of our backyard. He's a handsome boy. His lines and coloring remind me of a doberman.

He's brindle, Dobi's are black and tan - good luck with your fosterling, he looks great!

Congrats and lucky Sam! I'm delighted for both of you and its great that you found a cat friendly greyhound so quickly, well and truely proving that many can live with cats despite what some people think and finding a cat friendly one isn't that hard.
