TED is an annual conference where they get experts from a wonderfully wide range of expertise to speak about their research in plain English. The multitouch technology that the iphone now uses was first demonstrated there for example.
Anyway, if you've got circa 8 minutes of spare time this is well worth a look. Involves a camera and projector that interacts with the world.
