Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Data Recovery from HDD - Recommendation

    Hi Folks,

I was wondering if anyone here can recommend a PC repair place that does data recovery from a HDD? I accidentally tugged on the cable of a friends external HDD while it was plugged in and copying something. As a result it looks like the partition table has been corrupted, when I plug the HDD in windows will see and mount it no problem but when I click into the drive to see the files I get an error saying that the drive is unreadable or corrupt. I have run the freeware version of GetDataBack and it can see all the files that were on it. Normally I would just buy the activation key and run GetDataBack but my friend has some college work on there that is irreplaceable and while Im confident I can recover the files using GetDataBack I would prefer to go to a data recovery specialist so that if GetDataBack fails or there is something else wrong with it that it is in the right hands.

I know there are about a dozen hard drive recovery places in Dublin but from past experience the prices they charge for recovery are exhorberant to say the least (yes I know justified in some cases like having to physically rebuild the drive or remove platters etc but in the majority of cases its recovery via software for which the prices are daylight robbery). One quote I got from a place was around €600 which as a jobless bum I do not have. So is there anyone out there who knows a data recovery specialist that uses GetDataBack and would be willing to recover the data for a reasonable fee considering that an activation key for GetDataBack is $80.

    Regards,

    Dave

Your deffo not going to get it any cheaper than 80 quid, I'd try getdataback first and go from there.

Was the drive ntfs or fat?

    Give that a whirl....tis free.

The most important thing is you don't save anything BACK to the drive (even if that possible) to avoid overwriting anything.

I've used this in the past. Works well. The application can be tailored to your needs\computer experience.
