Hi apologies if this is in the wrong place, please move if need be.

I know almost nothing about websites, can someone tell me if the following "effect" (?) is simple to do if you have a html site, and how it's possible to do it yourself or if not, where would you go to get it done?

The website is www.edmiller.co.uk and what I'd like to do is have the same effect with when you go to the site, the way the image on the front page scrolls open.

    Thanks!

    it's done in flash.

100% flash sites are awful as you cut off a lot of users who may not have flash installed on their machines.

that "effect" can be easily done with a combination of javascript/jquery and css for the styling of everything.

    thanks for the reply.

when you say easy, do you mean easy for anyone (like me - very computer and web stuff illiterate!) or easy to get done in some web design place?

Get it done professionally. I wouldn't recommend taking this on yourself unless you are willing to put the time into learning html and jquery.

No, not a chance of me learning that stuff!

Can you recommend anywhere in Dublin? There's so many web design places I wouldn't know where to begin - all I want is somewhere capable, location city central or south county, and reasonably priced!

What kind of website do you want. Is it for you, or a someone else? Is it also a photography website? What kind of budget do you have in mind. What kind of information & content do you want on it? Hard to recommend anyone without some more info.

    Thanks

Sure thing. If you want to see some true professional design check out http://www.webdesignire.com and have a look at some sites there. You will be able to see who made them at the bottom of the page.

These developers and designers are true professionals. If anyone quotes you a couple of hundred Euro for a site then walk away. No true professional will ever work for such small money.

People here expect to pay that kind of money because those who would claim to produce quality work will tell them they should, even though they produce work to poor standards.

Web development and design is a skill that takes years to master. There is much more to it than people may lead you to believe.

Good luck with the search and if there is anything else you need just ask.

Sorry Matt - another question - as I've already paid for my website and I'm only looking for someone to change the front page to an image that pops open instead of loads normally, what should I expect (roughly) to pay for that? A thousand or more would seem extortionate - as limited as my knowledge is I assume what I'm looking for is simple enough...?!

    Hi,

Can you post the link for your website? For a job like this, you would be looking at around €175.
