    wolf very quick basicis

    get the ball 4 chances to move forward 10 yards

    1st 10 first chance 10 to go

    2nd 8 second chance 8 to go etc etc

    you get the 10 and you reset to 1st and 10 and so on and so on

    ok. You have to get 10 yards in 4 plays and if you do it gets reset. So 1st and 10 means 1st play and 10 yards to get. Lets imagine you get 5 yards. The next play is 2nd and 5. If a team gets 8 yards then they have gotten enough yards so the next play is 1st and 10 and so on and so forth.
    Usually on 4th down the team will punt it, that's when you kick it away to the other team or go for a field goal which is the same as a penalty in rugby.
